basser27 Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 What’s everyone using these days for spinning? 6-8lb test. Normally a trilene xl guys but haven’t been to happy the last few times I spooled up. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted August 2, 2023 Super User Posted August 2, 2023 Bass? 4x Braid to leader, 1x 8# InvizX (FC) Panfish? 2x braid to leader, 2x Sufix Siege (4# on the UL, 6# on the Med) Quote
PourMyOwn Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 I've bought a couple of spools of Gamma, and am impressed. Quote
GRiver Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Berkeley big game, but I recently bought a reel from Bass Pro, they’ll spool it free, with reel purchase. I liked their Excel mono. It’s been bout 6 months and been holding up pretty good…. I do use line conditioner too. Quote
you Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 If I wasn't using braid, I'd probably pick trilene xl or invisx for a mono mainline. I'll second @looking45 on the maxima, too, but I have much less experience with it. I've used a spool in 5# for panfish and lighter bass leaders. It seems to knot and handle well. Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted August 2, 2023 Super User Posted August 2, 2023 For years I used Stren and Trilene with little problems. Now, I've switched to Co poly lines. Yo Zuri hybrid or P line. Both have worked well. Quote
Super User gim Posted August 2, 2023 Super User Posted August 2, 2023 I like Sufix Siege and P line. 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 I use BPS Excel mono for everything. 4lb to 8lb for spinning, 10lb to 17lb for casting set ups. 4 Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 I picked up some Vicious mono a couple of years ago and I am ba-da-ba-ba-ba loving it. Quote
Wollman14 Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Suffix Siege #6, other wise I am 10 lb yellow braid to leader Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 2, 2023 Super User Posted August 2, 2023 Sufix Siege 6lb Camo. Quote
garroyo130 Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Yo Zuri Hybrid 4lb test. Dirt cheap and never failed me. 1 Quote
Fishingmickey Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Sun Line Defier Armillo. It's about two to three times the price of Trilene XL, Big game or Stren. But I have been very happy with it's performance. 1 Quote
Hulkster Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 I use Sufix Siege mono on all my rigs, baitcasting and spinning. on a 3000 size spinning reel I use 8 or 10 pound test Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted August 2, 2023 Super User Posted August 2, 2023 If I wasn't using braid I would be using Sunline supernatural. Very small diameter for the rating, minimal memory, good coating and knots. I use it for my 12/14/16 lb baitcasters right now. 8 ln supernatural would be like 4-5 lb Trilene. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 2, 2023 Super User Posted August 2, 2023 Right now I've downsized to 8 lb Big Game line to give that a try. I was using 10 lb, but with the dinks I have been catching lately I don't think 2 lbs is going to make a difference. Quote

Am I right that Trilene XL and BPS Excel are the same? XL - Excel...same name and the line feels verrrry similar. 1 Quote

BPS has their line manufactured by other companies under their brand name (private label manufacturing), so hard to tell who currently makes it. I’m pretty sure they shop the contract around every so often, so the manufacturer could change every once in a while. I know the line characteristics seemed to have changed some over the years according to many, myself included. I used their line for spinning purposes (6, 8, 10 lb test) about 20 years ago, and it was pretty good stuff back then. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted August 3, 2023 Global Moderator Posted August 3, 2023 Eagle claw 6 mono. Used it forever 1 Quote
