vehicle window tint

i have a new Toyota Tacoma.  i have an appointment to get the windows tinted.  my truck has the rear passenger door window and the rear window with some sort of colored (dyed) glass, so i will leave  them alone.  i am NOT trying to get everything to match.  i am thinking 35% on the sides, and i will do the windshield with 70% passing.   i am developing cateracts according to my eye doc.  

 

i drove my old tacoma with naked glass for 16 years, and i just want to try tint with the new rig.  my wife's EV is tinted and it is way more comfortable.  i noticed i can run the AC lower and still be cool.  

 

it's getting warmer and brighter these days.  anyone running tint?  i dont remember the last time i had my car done.  i am going with ceramic tint.  the Xpel stuff.

I have it but we can only do something like 40% max, go over and they can flunk you at the yearly inspection. I told the guy to put on what he could.

Varies by state.  Check your state laws prior to application otherwise you could be subject to a citation and they will make you remove it.

 

My brother bought a car in HS originally from Arizona.  He was pulled over and the officer told him it was tinted too much for MN state law.  Had to change it or risk a second, more serious citation.

 

Generally, states further south allow more window tint.

I can’t stand it, drives me crazy when driving family/friends car with tinted windows. My moms car at night is a death trap, super bright nav screen and dark windows

Probably the only thing I hate about my Silverado (bought it used). Rear window in cab, and both front and rear windows of the topper are tinted...makes it almost impossible to see straight back.

My Corvette's tinted at 15% all the way around.

 

The Silverado's still got the factory tint on it, but I'm gonna have my guy fix that problem one of these days when I get around to it.

 

I care not for legality.

If you’re having cataract issues go to your eye doctor and see if they will write you a medical pass (for lack of better words). My sister worked for an ophthalmologist and they did that from time to time. If they do you can tint more than your state usually allows.

I had 20 percent put on everything but the windshield in my last Silverado. Need to get my current one done

3M ceramic tint has very good thermal properties and is the way to go in my experience

My daughter got it done to her car a couple of weeks ago. You can’t see out the back at night. It drives me nuts when I ride with her. I’ve already done an internet search on how to get the tint off the window.

I also fall in the camp of “ can’t stand it especially at night”.  My truck has a factory tint on the side windows, and it’s hardly any at all, and I still hate it when trying to use the mirrors when it’s darker out. I’d rather have clear glass and wear sunglasses when needed than to have a window that you can’t see out of. I want to be able to see all the other idiots coming at me as much as I can?.

If you have a defogger o the window get a pro to get it off, as you can damage the defogger pretty easy. In fact the used 2006 silverado I bought a coupe months ago has double limo tint, which I HATE, and I'm  having my local window tinter remove it.

My Tacoma's front windows are tinted to match the factory tint on the back doors and sliding rear window.

The only tinted windows I like are on old hot rods. It looks good on old roadsters etc. But I wouldn't want it on my vehicles.

Few years back I bought a truck from another state and promptly got pulled over for excessive tint.

I sprayed the tint with Windex and covered with plastic wrap......an hour later tint pealed off with ease.

I wish I would have known that trick when the inspector flunked my tint. Peeling that stuff off is a real pain in the rump.

For anybody that needs to remove window film of any sort, this stuff right here is the business.

 

 

Denatures the adhesive. This stuff, a heat gun, and a careful, deliberate hand will help you get the film off without buggering up your rear window defroster. Take your time and don't go yanking on stuck film.

 

Before we bought the house we're in now, we were in a rental with a lot of windows facing the street, and I covered every window on the front half of the house with translucent film. This little bottle and a single-edge razor blade made short work of getting rid of it.

yea.  we get a "fix it " ticket the first time around here.  i am not going with an attention grabbing dark tint.  i work with a gang of CHP officers and they all are symthetic to our heat.  dont be a rude knucklehead and...  this is what they tell me at least.  

 

my sassy friend gave a CHP person lip, got a ticket and simply paid it.  she is still tinted.  

 

i am not worried about the ramifications.  i will cross that bridge when i need to cross it.

Generally there are only a few different ways you can get a tint ticket around here:

- If you're found to exist in Sevier County (they ain't got nothing better to do when the tourists are all at Dollywood)

- If the cop's feelings get hurt

- Revenge ticket if they come up dry after pulling you for a fishing expedition

 

Never got one, but I decided a long time ago that I'd just pay it and go on with my life if it ever happens.

 

It chaps my hide that half of the cruisers I see have limo tint, but state limit here is 35%.

Ironcially enough I just removed the tint from the windows on my car.  It was on there when I bought it 7 years ago and starting to bubble and I didn't realize just how scratched and not clear it was until i removed it all.
