I like winter the most probably. I tend to do good in the summer. I can really struggle in the spring sometimes, and fall is a tossup

Summer is my favorite.  The bass are stacked up in the submerged vegetation looking for shade and oxygen.

Fall for Musky in Canada with the cooler weather and colorful trees. Never caught any giant bass in the fall in SoCal, it’s mostly Shad feeding school bass and few decent jig fish.

As noted earlier Pre Spawn the weather is unpredictable and the lake lice don’t like rainy weather...I do!

It ain't right now, I can tell you that. Here are the pictures of ALL the fish I have caught in the past three weeks:

I caught all of these last night alone:

Yep, in the last three weeks, I have gone from "Pew-Pew-Pew" to "Pepe LePew".

I like late Fall, early Winter.  It's not in the 20's,  and the lake is way less crowded.   Everyone with a boat is fishing from early Spring until it get's into the 90's.  After it get's into the 90's the lake is full of wake boats and jet skis.   I love to fish in the Summer rain.  It empties the lake and I believe it excites the Bass.   Way too often Summer rain includes lightening though.

Easy to answer....FALL!

Reasons:

  • Still catching fish
  • Cooler weather
  • Football season starts
  • Hunting season starts
  • Baseball season still going
  • Did I mention cooler weather?
  • Leaves turning

Strictly for catching larger than average prespawn bass, definitely spring.

Fall is hit or miss for me.  I've had good days and really bad days but the weather is usually very comfortable.

Summer time can be hot, even this far north, but fish are usually in a predictable pattern.

Winter...I don't ice fish.

NOT deep summer.  my ankles are kinda sunburned.  hahahha.

@gimruis.  my friend lives in Rochester MN.  i almost cant talk to him this time of year, because he goes on and on and on about the Fall fishing for him.  he slays them!!  it is awful, because my own fall events are less spectacular.  his pictures and stories eclipse my own.  :(

I recall you mentioning this before once but you never stated where he actually lived.  Rochester is about 75 miles southeast of me.  Has arguably the best healthcare on the planet there.

Do you know where he fishes most of the time?  Ironically, being the land of 10,000 lakes, there really isn't much in that immediate area.  LaCrosse, WI area is southeast of him and has a lot of good bass fishing.

Fall is lovely here, I can't argue that.  The fishing for me can be hot or cold though.  Last year it was extremely good and I finished the final month of the season on a very high note because of it.  But the year before fall was not very good.

I catch more fish in the fall than any other season. Plus the party boaters go home and the hunters put their boats in the garage. The lake is less crowded and the fish respond.

Also cooler weather, football Friday nights and Saturdays, and the excitement of the upcoming holiday season.

Jan-Feb can sit on a fork.

I'm a native of Rochester, MN Darth - it's pretty much river fishing down there - Mississippi, Zumbro, Root, Cannon, etc. Have to travel a ways to find a lake. Rochester is in Olmsted County - one of only 2 counties in the state of 10,000 lakes without a natural lake!

As far as seasons go - I like Spring, Summer, Fall for different reasons.  However, since getting 360 imaging a few years ago -I'd say finding off shore rock concentrations in late Summer into Fall and scraping the big girls off of them with Carolina Rigs, Football Jigs, Tubes and even Neds has become very fun and productive.

As far as winter here goes - it can pound sand. We usually go South from January-April, but are leaving mid-October this year before the curtain comes down for 6 months of frozen Hell!

he says downtown(?).

and he is finding small rivers and such.  some big rivers too..like the Mississippi.  he has a youtube channel you can watch..I bet as a local, you can figure out where he goes.  I'll send you his channel name if you want.

yea...his wife is in the healthcare system as an RN.

@FryDog62 funny you mentioned WINTER.  my wife went to Grand Rapids for a nursing conference.  she went as far as finding a luxury condo for sale, and go the RE agent name.  hahah..

I was, "err..honey.  do you know it gets cold over there?"

the condo was SWEET and only $380k.  but WINTER would kill my tropical born wife.  hahahha

Which could be any of three creeks, South Branch Zumbro river, or 'Silver Lake' - which is basically a pool of the Zumbro.

I'm ready for fall. It's my favourite time of the year for fishing. After all the heat and humidity of summer, fall feels great. The scenery around the lake is an added bonus IMO.  If I can time it right, the fishing can be good too. I've had some good days fishing in the fall.                                What's your favourite season for fishing?

Just curious are you British? Love seeing fishermen from all over that’s awesome!!

His user name is a give-away....He's from Missouri.  'MO-Basser'

We do have a couple Brits who pop in now and then, and one from Portugal...but I haven't seen him in months.

Man it’s hard to pick. Each open water season has its upsides. Spring usually produces my biggest fish of the year, and that’s certainly been the case this year. Summer is the most predictable as far as where the fish will be and when they’ll be there. Fall might be my favorite. Lots of big fish show up in the fall and the fish aren’t as unpredictable as spring. The foliage scenery, the smells, the crisp air, the sounds of hunters’ gunshots in distance. The ambience of fall fishing is definitely the best.

Wow. Great post OP! This thread has been really surprising to me. So many people saying fall!

For me I love April/May and Oct/Nov.

Also a lot of winter picks in this thread... I stop fishing in the winter and go crazy... am I missing out on something here?

I have a serious dislike for answers that included the word winter! Spring and late fall are great for catching big fish for me, but my vote for favorite is SUMMER. Numbers are up, there is next to no one on the water, the temperature drops to bearable levels and I just got my first bug bite last week.  The Lord has seen fit to all but eliminate those pesky vermin the last few summers and the last hour of daylight into the darkness is as close to heaven on the water as I could ever imagine.
