Your Favourite Season

I'm ready for fall. It's my favourite time of the year for fishing. After all the heat and humidity of summer, fall feels great. The scenery around the lake is an added bonus IMO.  If I can time it right, the fishing can be good too. I've had some good days fishing in the fall.                                What's your favourite season for fishing?

It use to be summer but it's been so hot here in NC I've lost my fishing spirit so, Fall will become my favorite fishing season this year and most likely winter too.

I agree Fall is by far my favorite. Kinda bittersweet living where I live because I dread winter, but I love fall. Bass get very predictable and easy to catch in several local lakes. Catfish are fattening up and putting on the feed bag. Walleye and Sauger start gathering up in holes in the local river. Scenery is great. Weather is chilly and very pleasant, welcome like you said after a hot summer. Also most guys are hunting so i rarely see other anglers. Halloween is my favorite holiday, so there's horror movies flooding all my streaming services, so I have plenty to watch at night after fishing.

I’m gonna say Spring due to the possibility of catching the biggest bass of the year with Fall being a close second due to sheer numbers as they fatten up for Winter.

fall time only because the rivers and dam releases are at their lowest and the rivers run clear,  its still nice in north dakota in sept and oct during the day just bundle up when the sun goes down as its near freezing.

Spring is my favorite. Getting back out after a couple months off the water. Warming temps, big girls moving shallow, the woods turning green again...

 

Summer is my favorite. Chasing big bass and eyes in the dark. No crowd at night, comfortable temps, peace and quiet, the way my senses are more acute in the dark...

 

Fall/early winter is my favorite. Cool crisp mornings, fall colors, hot jig/trig bite on the shallow wood, even hotter muskie bite, no crowd...

I like winter and summer for size .  Fall and spring for numbers and weather.

 

Winter can get rough with the shivering and feeling forlorned and not getting a ton of bites but the thrill of catching a fattened sow in the dead of winter is the most exciting feeling in bass fishing IMHO.  It's like stalking them.  Hoping to be the first person to intercept them when they make their move.

 

Summer can get rough with the sweating and losing consciousness from heat exhaustion but it seems like you're always getting bit in the heat and it keeps you rolling to that next giant bite.  For some reason I catch the most big fish in the summer by far.

 

Fall is probably pound for pound the most pleasant time to bass fish around here.  You can have insane numbers days and the jig bite goes wild so you catch larger fish also.  My son caught his personal best 7 lb 8 oz bass last year on Halloween and I caught a 2.5 a 3.5 and a 4 and he caught a 3 also and it was only a 2 hour afternoon trip out cut short by a nasty storm.  Fall is awesome.

 

Spring is probably the best time to introduce someone to bass fishing.  It's a visual thing.  Being able to see the fish and cast to them and learn how they react to your bait is both exhilarating and also invaluable when you make the leap to fishing for fish you can't see.  You start to get an idea of what works to make them tick in general.  Also just seeing GIANT female bass lumbering in the clear shallow water and Laughing at people trying to catch them is always fun.

 

I kinda agree they're all the best.

1st of April is when I start hooking good fish but anytime I'm on the boat I'm feeling very content.

Fall is a magical time of year, sitting in a tree stand thinking about fishing and sitting in the boat thinking about deer hunting.

Anytime trophy Brown Bass are 'shallow & eating', I am happy.

Ice out to mid-May can be lights out for numbers of plus sized smallies here.

But late summer into early fall, offers chances at the same size fish,

just not the same type of numbers.

All my 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 lb bags of brown bass happened in the spring.

(still looking for that elusive 30 lb plus bag).

Spring time by-catch can be pretty memorable as well. 

However early season I am often fishing in what is pretty close to winter type conditions;

cold, wind & waves.

Late summer and early fall sees far more trips that offer fisherman friendly weather. 

The bass are still full blast big & chewing, they just a little more spread out.

Covering water becomes important. 

My PB smallie came in early September. 

So trying to decide which is my favorite,

guess it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

I love the fall. Always planned any kind of fishing trip around it. Comfort and catch wise are generally good.

Spring, getting over the winter and a lot activity everywhere.

Right now is my favorite. The river is low, clear, warm and I catch lots of bass. Fishing is as easy as putting a few extra plastics in my pocket and walking into the river.

 

Late summer and early fall can good here. The good fishing I have now usually improves a bit up to the end of September.  Once it gets cold I'm done.

Any time the weather is comfortable.  I like the summer on mild days. The fishing in summer, for me , is predictable. Just cant hack temperature's over 90 degrees.

Spring and fall. Normally I'd include summer, but as I age the heat gets more oppressive.

 

I was all set to take my kayak to a new section of lake this morning but the heat advisories kicked in and I did not want to deal with morning heat indices of 106 and rising to 100+ later today.

 

I'm fine with night fishing on my kayak, but I've never been to this section of lake before and I'd rather familiarize myself with the area and map it out first. Too much can go wrong at night as it is.
