Cory20 Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 What weight, color, brand do you guys like for finesse jigs? Where and when do you fish them? Do you like a bait fish or craw colored skirt? I was thinking about getting some lighter jigs and would appreciate some feedback. Thanks Quote
basspro48 Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I throw em in any situation where a bulky bait won't get the job done, pressured fish, clear water, cold weather, small fish/forage, etc. My two top producing finesse jigs are made by Eakins/Jewel jigs, they are the Pro Spider finesse jig and the finesse football jig. I use the 5/16oz Pro Spider jig in shallow water (1-8ft.) and in very natural colors like watermelon flash, PB&J, and blue/brown. For trailers I use a ZOOM lil critter craw or a RI smallie beaver in a matching color. The 1/2-3/4oz finesse football jig is used in deeper water (10-20+ft.) and in natural and darker colors like PB&J, black/blue, blue/brown/purple, and watermelon flash. Trimmed baby brush hogs and GYCB twintail grubs are the best trailers I have found for the football jig. Quote

I use them in 5 sizes and a bunch of colors. Here are a few of the colors in 1/4 oz. Quote
Cory20 Posted August 22, 2007 Author Posted August 22, 2007 Jigman that's a lot of jigs! Thanks for the input all! Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted August 22, 2007 Super User Posted August 22, 2007 Jigman that's a lot of jigs! Thanks for the input all! That is only one size. Like stated I carry 5 sizes so I keep over 1,000 jigs in the boat all the time. I think I have at least 5 rods rigged right now with them. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted August 22, 2007 Super User Posted August 22, 2007 Those jigs look good enough to eat. It looks like someone spilled a bag of Skittles. Eye candy!!! ;D Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted August 22, 2007 Super User Posted August 22, 2007 I only really throw finesse jigs at one lake, that has alot of little fish, clear water, and alot of downed timber. My choice is a 1/4 oz Assalt King Kobra Arkie head in brown/orange. Trim the skirt all the way to the bend of the hook and dress it with either a 4" GYCB twin tail grub in rootbeer, or a paca tiny chunk in crawfish. They are now discontinued but I bought about 300 of them in bulk for $0.33 a piece! What a score! Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted August 23, 2007 Super User Posted August 23, 2007 My main finnesse jig has been the Bitsy bug, with a 3" Power Craw as a trailer. I use mostly the 1/8oz size. Black/blue jig with black/chartreuse craw, or a brown/orange combo have been best for me. Just got some Evolution jigs in 3/16oz. Can't wait to try them out. After the thread on the Nories Bug, I think I'll be trying those for trailers on the small jigs. I don't get many fish on the Bug fished by itself, so I may as well use them up as jig trailers. It's worth a shot. Cheers, GK Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 3/8 round ball head, 4/0 hook in senko77 color. I make all mine. I dont own 1 factory jig. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted August 24, 2007 Super User Posted August 24, 2007 5/16oz jig (like Gman I make my own) in either light or dark brown that looks like the one in Gmans avatar. If I had to buy some it would be the Eakins Jewel jig in brown or pumkinseed. For trailers I usually use a Zoom super chunk jr or a small craw but a lot of differnt trailers work. Allen Quote

Everything he has posted here is great JIG info. After fishing quite a lot the last few seasons with a tournament winning JIG fisherman, it is now always the rig that I grab first, and has consistently been a big fish producer. Take this mans notes and store them in your brains hard drive! And yes, JIG is in all upper case. Here in my little KS fishing click we now say the word, "JIG" with a deep, long pronunciation that sounds like the hawgs that it produces. Quote
