GoneFishingLTN Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 What rod do you think would be the best for a wacky worm in the summer for suspended fish? (Rod action not rod) Quote
you Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Depends on the worm. If it's a 5" senko, I'd use a medium weight, fast action spinning rod. if its something smaller like a finesse worm, probably a medium-light, especially if there's not much cover around. 6 Quote

djhands Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 I use a alx mcsmalls which is a l+ 1/16 to 1/2 ounce rating with a Stella 4000 and trying the new kastking tripoly 6lb line Quote
Fishin Dad Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 I prefer a medium power with fast action. I fish a wacky worm around some cover usually. I have even bumped up to a MH at times. I like a ml for open water finesse fishing though (drop shot, Neko, etc.). Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 ML XF or M F all depends on the weight of the worm and what kind of line youre using. There are some MH inshore rods I use that have a good blank for a deeper water worm rod. A tip that can load fairly well with 1/8, but once you get to the lower end of the mid section you have enough more then enough power to set a hook deep. 1 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted August 4, 2023 Super User Posted August 4, 2023 I accidentally discovered my Dobyns Kaden spinning rod doenst suck as a wacky worm rod. I like a more parabolic bend. but having said that, I dont fish Wacky that much anymore. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted August 4, 2023 Super User Posted August 4, 2023 6’6” medium fast spinning rod. 3 Quote

(Rod action not rod) I use a M/XF for my wacky rigs regardless of season. 15lb braid to a 12lb mono leader. This has been a successful setup for me for that presentation. I've also gone heavier and used MH/XF, 20lb braid to a 20lb fluoro leader. Also worked great, though I prefer the bend in the M for those smaller hooks. The MH still landed me my biggest wacky rig fish at 8lb 7oz. I wouldn't overthink it too much, personally. 2 Quote

Super User BrianMDTX Posted August 4, 2023 Super User Posted August 4, 2023 I like a MF or a MLXF. Mostly a MF. Quote

Ryanralston07 Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Medium fast for me. I had a medium moderate and didn't like it because it was too slow of an action. Quote
