kevin159 Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I'm looking to get a Megabass rod, preferably Orochi but willing to go Destroyer (non P5). The plan is to have it share duties with my 7'1" MH/F St. Croix Victory. Also worth noting that I'm planning to get a Dobyns DC 735C. Fishing all these lures in no/light/moderate weeds and submergent grass. Anything between 7'-7'6". It will be used for: T-rigs casting with 1/8-1/2oz weight Swim jigs 3/8-1/2oz Spinnerbaits 3/8-1/2oz Chatterbaits 3/8-1/2oz Soft plastic swimbaits Whopper plopper sizes 75-90 Buzzbaits 3/8-1/2oz Swivel/swing head jigs 3/8-1/2oz Even better if it can go down to 1/4oz and up to 3/4oz for those lures. Bonus points if it can manage dragging a 1/2oz football jig (until I get a jig and worm rod). Quote
Super User webertime Posted July 26, 2023 Super User Posted July 26, 2023 That's 2 rods for me Brailist and EMTF 3 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted July 26, 2023 Super User Posted July 26, 2023 Since I see more moving stuff. dark sleeper. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 27, 2023 Super User Posted July 27, 2023 To do all that, I would look at the Megabass Valkyrie line. The 6'11'' MH wouldn't be bad. The two I have (7'1''H and the 7'4" H+) have been great. They can do just about whatever. I have used the 7'1'' for all of the things mentioned above but all in the 1/2oz to 1.5oz range. Quote
Pogues2300 Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 I think on the heavier side of your wants perfect pitch would be good. As someone said though it’s ideally two rods. Maybe I’m missing a rod in the lineup, only own two orochi. Quote

UmairF Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Between the P5 dark sleeper, daemos, and javelin, which would be best for ripping 3/8-1/2oz chatterbaits through submerged grass? A lot of people have directed me to glass rods but I strongly dislike that heavy feeling glass rods have. Something that bends maybe 25-30% of the rod and then goes into a somewhat giving midsection and then a quick transition to straight backbone all the way down maybe 50% of the rod. Currently have the Xbites and Dark Sleeper seeing if there’s a better rod for chatterbaits in the P5 lineup. For launching across grass flats and slipping through tight lanes. Have a similar post going on but thought I could get some additional input here since the OP seems to have listed a couple techniques I’m looking to throw in a rod as well. Quote
lunkerboss923 Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 A good do everything in Orochi XX is the Tour Versatile. It will handle all those techniques fairly well. P5 the Daemos in the USA model or the Dark Sleeper in the JDM. Both, I consider do everything rods, similar to the Dobyns 734c. If you want something to do it all take a look at the G Loomis IMX PRO 744 MBR. It's about $100 cheaper and a very nice JDM rod. The Dobyns 735c is a great jig rod. That said, if you can afford it go with the Champion XP. Another rod to consider is the Kaden 744c. The Kaden is Megabass-ish with the non-sanded blanks which adds more sensitivity. I do want to warn you, Megabass has short triggers in the handle which can be cumbersome to some people. It takes a lot to get used to. 2 Quote

Smirak Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Can’t recommend one (yet). I have a MB Orochi XX Tour Versatile that arrived this weekend. Haven’t fished it yet. However, I have the same Dobyns and Victory you mention. I love both of those rods as well… 1 Quote
