AClark888 Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I would like to install a trolling motor where my pedal drive goes into my makana 100. Anybody have any thoughts on a preferably cheap way I could do this. Thanks. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted July 26, 2023 Super User Posted July 26, 2023 pod motor set ups are never cheap as they are very specific to the boat. I am not super familiar with that boat boat isn't it relatively new? If so, it will limit options most likely for now Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted July 26, 2023 Super User Posted July 26, 2023 the cheap way will be to make a DIY solution. You'll need a blanking plate for the drive hole, a trolling motor of choice (with associated wiring and battery), and some hardware. I don't know if there is a plate on the market that already fits it. If not, a piece of starboard of appropriate thickness would be a good start. You can pick up a used transom mount trolling motor on marketplace relatively cheaply. With care, you can cut down the shaft to a very short length. Then you just need a way to tie the two together. Quite a few people have done it on various kayak forums. All in you're in for about $150 plus the battery of choice. 1 Quote
AClark888 Posted September 16, 2023 Author Posted September 16, 2023 Okay. My makana 100 now has a trolling motor where the pedal drive was. It was an easy modification to be honest! All me and a buddy did was make a plate out of wood that would fit in the pedal drive port, bolt a small aluminum plate on the underside of the wood for added support, de-lid a trolling motor to cut the shaft down, then drill a hole through the plates that would fit the trolling motor. Works great! Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted September 17, 2023 Super User Posted September 17, 2023 Nice. Just make sure that you treat/coat the wood since it will be in contact with water. Quote
