Fishthunder Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I have seen on some videos people talk about knot pullers to save your hands. I think that is a good idea, I have got 2 good spots on my fingers lol. I now grab with my shirt usually. I seen where they say it damages or could your reel if you just pull on a stuck lure until the line breaks. I think a knot puller could be used for that too. Do you have one or recommend a knot puller? Quote
you Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I use the handle of my fish gripper (rubberized) for pulling out snags, seating FG knots etc. Just wrap the line around a few times and it's easy to grip. The same thing would work with any rubber-handled tool (pliers, a small wrench, etc). Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted July 25, 2023 Super User Posted July 25, 2023 nope. I have enough stuff on my kayak. on big fishing days, I will tape a few spots on my hands with Leukatape. I see ocean guys using them, but I dont see the need at my magnitude of fishing. those guys put their backs into the knots. Quote

I tried pliers but thinner braid would cut into the handles (rapala, Shimano), then I also tried fish grip Jr but the textured surface would make the line break at the gripper, not the lure. Quote
you Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Ahh, bummer. The ring idea looks pretty cool, then. Quote
RB 77 Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 All the time with heavier saltwater gear when tying braid backing to mono topshots. Not so much with lighter freshwater line unless its when Im doing my annual preseason topshots. An angler can make homemade ones by using a couple pieces of various types of pipe wrapped with electrical tape. I fish enough to justify buying myself a nice pair. I use the Thirty Fathoms brand. An invaluable tool IMO... Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 26, 2023 Super User Posted July 26, 2023 If I know I am going to fish braid and will need to retie, I use blue painters tape on my fingers. Cheap and reusable. Quote

Cheap and reusable. leukotape can go weeks. it gets gross, and i change it. but it lasts and lasts. i had it covering feet blisters for a 10 day backpack trip. that stuff is magic. i am headed to brazil. it was the first thing i put in my "things to pack" list. full submersion lifting and releasing fish. no issues. MAGIC! Quote
