I use quite a bit of Vanish and have not had this porblem.

As a suggestion, purchase another brand and try it to see if the problem still exsists. It could be due to something else such as a nick in a guide.

I use Berkley transition with good results, but I am using 17 lb test fluorocarbon line.Seaguar Carbon pro line is excellent fluorocarbon line. I was pretty much forced to switch to berkley, because I can buy it in my area where Seaguar isn't sold in my area. :-[

There are more variables here to take into account.  Were these breaks new off the spool first casts?  If so I would suspect the line possibly.  If not, what kind of cover/structure were you banging against in your retrieves?  How heavy of lure were you casting vs. lure and line rating of the rod/reel?  Is the reel malfunctioning and stopping the spool mid cast?  Do you have a nicked up guide that is tearing up your line?

My point is, if it isnt the line then you are risking losing even more money by investing in higher dollar line only to keep breaking it.  Vanish definately isnt the best line out there but it isnt the worst.  I've said it before on other threads, it has a higher stretch factor than other floro's, although that wouldnt make a difference if it was brought to a screeching halt from 100 mph.

If you do switch lines just do yourself a favor and eliminate other possibilities as well to avoid more frustration and lost money.

Vanish = waste of time and money.

Even if it cost $1 it would be too expensive.

There are much better fluoro lines out there, and if you are living on a budget, try Triple Fish Fluorocarbon or PLine Fluoroclear. They are half of the Vanish price and way superior to infamous Vanish.

I have hard time to understand how did Vanish survive on the market for so long I guess it is the size of the Pure Fishing and monster network that is keeping it alive. Hopefully not for long.

Some brands of anything are better than others.

But I no longer use ANY fluorocarbon line.  I find them all to be more brittle than comparably sized quality mono

I use sunline sniper. I'd also recommend using some type of line conditioner like kvd line and lure.

This can happen with flouro if you get a bad back lash that puts a kink in your line.  One of the many reasons I stopped using flourocarbon.  I'd also give your line guides a good look,  especially the tip guide.

If you get a line conditioner,  I wouldn't recommend Reel Magic.  Results were marginal at best.

Vanish really is a pretty crappy fluorocarbon. I have used it successfully when I had nothing else and was able to pick it up on the cheap at Walmart by tying it on as a leader and using it for not much more than a day's worth of fishing, but it seems that the line gets brittle as it gets bent with each cast, and after enough casts even in open water it just frays and breaks.

If you want a decent good value Fluorocarbon, try the Seaguar InvisX (or even Red Label) or the Berkley Trilene professional grade fluorocarbon. Speaking of which you can get Berkley Trilene Fluorocarbon at Bass Pro Shops buy one get one free right now. That's a much better line and you wouldn't even know it's from the same company.

Berkley Vanish is, in my opinion, the worst fluorocarbon on the market. as mentioned above it frays and breaks easily. spiderwire fluorocarbon is a close second.

berkley 100% professional grade fluorocarbon isn't bad.

I use sunline sniper most of the time. it is more expensive, but I have not experienced any problems with it.

I had bad luck with Vanish. Same issue with line snapping.

I recommend Kastking Fluorokote. Its a co-poly line coated in Fluorocarbon. This year I am using it for all applications I would have used straight Fluoro on.

I didn't read the other posts, but I imagine it is the same response.  Vanish sucks period.  That is just Vanish, when I first started bass fishing I bought the same line.  Had the same problems, I won't even use it as a leader!  What Vanish line I have left I use as backing.  Knot strength is terrible too!  If you want to stay cheap floro get Seaguar Red Label.  Also I don't believe the hype on using floro for invisibility, does it help?  Maybe but I feel like it's line diameter that is more important and I don't see a difference in catching fish myself.  I usually use braid to leaders (mono, floro, hyrbid).  Only reason I use floro is the other qualities like: bottom contact floro doesn't float, abrasive resistance but then a hybrid line is just effective not because it's "invisible".

I'd like to give you a tip if you want to save money, look on youtube about using braid as mainline and using leader material.  Using braid as mainline will last forever if using leaders.  I have baitcasters that I haven't changed the line for years.  You can also save more money by reusing braid if the line is wearing, just respool another reel to your 2nd reel.  Basically you will be using the untouched line, brand new line!  I'm still on my 4 boxes of invizX and abrazX spools for 5 years (stored in a cool storage space in my man room), still about half way left just by using leaders only!

I haven't used Vanish, so I can't comment on line quality.  I'd check the guides of your rod, maybe there is a damaged guide with a sharp spot that is cutting your line.  Had this problem once in the past.

Save your money and get Mono. With the money you save, spoil your wife. A spoiled wife, happy fishing life. ;):D

Memphis, do the following:

1.  Get some Q-Tips and run the cotton around the inside of all rod line guides. If any cotton comes off onto the guide then the guide has a knick and is damaging your line. Replace it.

2.  Do you get backlashes?  Fluorocarbon line can be damaged when working to take out a backlash. No matter how careful you are you can still damage the line pulling on it to get that backlash out.

3.  Structure? If you are throwing your fluorocarbon line into wood or rocks the line can get damaged and you will never know it. Flouro is a good line but it can get damaged in blowdowns, trees, piers, docks and boathouses.

So here is what you do: After about six or seven casts, run the line off the rod tip to the bait between your thumbnail and index finger to check for any knicks, cuts, abrasions, or anything that does not feel right. If you feel anything, cut out the line and retie your bait.

And go to Gamma. It is expensive but it works.

I must share a funny story with you regarding Wdycrankbait who is on the Forum but is studying for his Professional Engineer exam at this time so he won't see this.  We were on the Chickahominy River and Woody wanted me to see how far he could throw his bait on his new Lew's reel. He said he could throw it a mile.

So he takes the rod and puts it behind his head and he casts as hard as he can.  And guess what? The line broke and his bait went flying into the wild blue yonder.  I could have fallen out of the boat laughing but I controlled my self. Poor Woody. He lost one of his favorite crankbaits but he did create one of the funniest fishing stories I have been involved in a long time.

Vanish is terrible. I use two different kinds of flouro. Seaguar Invizx if I want to throw something with trebles because of the stretch it has. I also use it on my senko rod. The other is Seaguar Abrazx. It’s very abrasion resistant and great for single hook baits with barely any stretch to it. I also use the Abrazx as a leader when need be on my 5 or 6 rods that have braid.

Seguar Invizx is my go to. I absolutely love that line. I would also say get a line conditioner. It has blown me away what a few sprays of that on ur line can do.it make the line soooooo much more manageable and in my opinion does help with casting distance. Just spray it on the night before you’re gonna hit the water.  U could use either reel magic or Kvd line conditioner they both seem the same to me. I would also suggest just saving up and buying a bulk spool of line. In the long run that will save you a lot of money.
