Yep, saw that coming from a few miles away, not just one mile

All I have to say is the NFC West is yet again in the Superbowl.  That makes 9 times in 18 years.  All four teams have made it during that time. Toughest division in the league.

Thats all well and good except……..

the Seahawks lost to Brady (and beat manning and the broncos), the niners lost to the chiefs twice, the cardinals lost to the Steelers, and the rams beat my bengals. So that’s nearly 100% disappointment for me watching your “tough” division in the Super Bowl. Maybe send some happiness this way next time they make it and don’t be like the bills 😂

SF has a longer Super Bowl drought than Dallas…….

So...how many times has your division been in the SuperBowl in the past 20 years?

*silence*

Ok then.

I don’t have a division … lord knows I’m not gonna cheer for my teams rivals…….. is my divison the one my fav team plays in? Thats AFC north. To answer the question off hand, I would guess maybe 5 for afc  north? 3 for Pittsburgh one for Baltimore one for cinci ? Is that more championship rings than the NFC west in that span with 3? NFC west has only 2. 3/5 > 2/9

i would love to say I like the NFC west but they are a Super Bowl heartbreak for me lately, like I said I’ve been cheering for them in 7 of 9 of the super bowls you mentioned and it’s been let down city

the toughest divison currently is the one with the chiefs in it unfortunately. They are the tough team that’s always winning the NFL (no runner up trophies). Let’s just hope Joe burrow comes back healthy and saves us all from this again next year

You both know it will be somebody from KC so just quit it

That’s a veteran it fan right there - he knows crushing disappointment is coming even though they look like winners through most of the game…

Honestly I felt like SF was on the wrong end of some bad bounces and strange occurrences- missed PAT, a McAffrey fumble, a blown Achilles while coming off the sideline, and that punt muff. That’s a ton of big things going KC’s way. Mahomes doesn’t need much extra help.

and that punt muff.

I thought that was the turning point in the game.  It wasn't really a muff though.  It hit another 49er player in the foot on its way down and the kick returner had to try and recover it on the fly, which he didn't.  A muffed punt is when you miss the ball making an attempt to catch it.

Regardless, when KC recovered that and subsequently scored on the very next play, the game kind of changed at that point.

The Chiefs had a bit of a "down" season by their recent standards finishing as the 3 seed in the AFC and having to go on the road for 2 playoff games, but they definitely proved some doubters wrong here.  Could they win on the road in the post season?  They sure can.  Can they win without Tyreek Hill's deep threat?  They sure can.  Can they win without Kelce dominating the game as a receiver?  They sure can.  Maybe the most important aspect of their current makeup is Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.  Its kind of reminds me of Belicheck and Brady for all those years.  Other players came and went, along with dominant tight ends (Gronk and Kelce), but the coach and the QB having an unbreakable working relationship seems to be what keeps them going.

KC also has two lightning quick CBs, they are still the gold standard

@gimruis, Andy Reid's play design and game calling is unmatched. Match that with Mahomes football IQ, ability to ready defenses, and arm strength....WOW! I thin what puts Mahomes in a league by himself is the ability to scramble and run when needed.  He's not Lamar, and doesn't have to be. Very special.

@TnRiver46, agree completely on Chief's DB's...when you have lock-down corners like that, enables Spagnola to dial up pressure when needed.

I don't really have a "favorite team," but it is fun watching the Chefs....great googly-moogly : )

It was a great SB and sports media can find another " Mr irrelevant " , thought Purdy played great.

I don't really have a favorite team but often root for the underdog.

Would have loved to have seen a Texans vs Lions SB. 😁

Mahomes figured out quickly in his career that if he was going to last in the NFL, he would have to become primarily a passing QB versus a running QB. Now he only runs as a last resort. I am of the opinion that is what sets him apart from some others who get lots of ooohs, aaaahs & big contracts but end up watching the Super Bowl on TV rather than participating in it. Romo even mentioned how KC no longer does QB sneaks "tush pushes" on short yardage plays since Mahomes was injured doing such at some point.

I figured the game would probably be a low scoring affair. Both had good defenses. Glad the game wasn’t mired with penalties or potential controversy with the officiating. SF just didn’t or couldn’t score enough TDs. KC defense was just good enough. Not sure what SF needs to do to get over that hump. Barring injuries & player movement/contract disputes, I would expect both to be right in the mix again next year.

Followed by mahomes running a sneak on 4th and short

he’s their all time leading rusher in the playoffs

Well, I didn’t quote it accurately. Romo specifically said "tush push". I’d have called the play you mentioned more of a designed run rather than a sneak but 6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of another.

Congratulations to KC and their fan base on winning Super Bowl LVIII. A second place finish to end a season might be measured as success by some however it’s definitely a bitter loss when winning the SB is the organizational goal.

I believe the 49ers and The Faithful will take some time to process everything. Then it’s about getting healthy (starting with Dre Greenlaw) and move forward towards getting to SB LVIII which begins with the upcoming draft and free agency.

I lived and worked in san fran for 5 years and went to the old candlestick park to watch niners and packers. The niners moved the team to Santa Clara alienating the city of san fran fanbase. Santa Clara is home to vampires lurking throughout and the niners will never win another superbowl, they are cursed.

I really appreciate your perspective @throttleplate however inaccurate it may be regarding The Faithful and the 49ers fan base. But I can say with a little more confidence that minnie (0-4 in SBs) is less likely to make it to a Super Bowl anytime soon let alone win one. Only time will tell.

BTW, lost boys was filmed in Santa Cruz

Oh I don’t think anyone would disagree with that. The Niners have been a contender for years and should be for the immediate future. I could name at least 10 teams that are currently worse off than the Vikings though.

Jefferson’s future will largely depend on who is at QB. He has openly stated he wants stability at the QB position. Which means if you want JJ long term, you need to re sign Cousins first.

You guys won’t be able to sign Cousins, Jefferson and Hunter.

So since it looks like they’re gonna do it anyway,

I’ll give you Fields for a 2nd and call it even.

I know, not enough cap space for all three of them.  Hunter had a fantastic season but he is third on that list to re-sign.

@gimruis In gridiron football, a muffed punt is defined as "touching of the ball prior to possessing the ball.” A muffed punt occurs when there is an "uncontrolled touch" of the football by a player on the returning team after it is punted…just saying. Not that it matters… Same result either way.

Okay now I am ready for a 3peat.  I just hope they can hang on to the key players.
