Unlike last week when there wasn't any, except for that guy doing a back flip. 1 1 Quote
RipzLipz Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 @J Francho I gave up before kickoff. @gimruis Lots of prime time stinkers this year for some reason. My 7 year old grandson could have picked a better prime time schedule. Apologies to any CHI fans but they’re probably years away from being a draw so why even bother putting them in prime time games for a couple years? To top it off we’re experiencing our 2nd provider/station owner dispute this season. First it was CBS affiliate to start the season now NBC affiliate to end it. Just about done with NFL. Change the rules to benefit passing QBs then draft trends seem to shift to running QBs with less passing skills (IMO). Quote

I’m able to watch SNF on nfl.com via a live stream, luckily. My provider sent me a $50 visa gift card and is taking $10 off my bill each month until the dispute ends to soften the blow. Still doesn’t make up for the fact that they can’t settle on a negotiated deal though. Reminds me of politicians trying to hash out a budget. All they do is point fingers without coming up with a compromised solution. Quote
RipzLipz Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 @gimruis They just go from one provider to the next. If it’s not Dish, it’s Comcast or DirecTV or someone else. Affects multiple states at a time depending on how many stations they own. Nothing but utter greed. Quote
throttleplate Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told reporters on Wednesday at the conclusion of the December League Meeting in Irving, Texas, that he would prefer to see the hip-drop tackle eliminated. "Hip drop, I would tell you, I think we all should work to get that out of the game," Goodell said. "You see it escalated in the number of times it occurred this season. The injury can be very devastating. We saw that also. It's not just happening at the NFL level. It's also happening at other levels. (It's) something I feel like we've got to work very hard to get that removed this spring." NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent echoed Goodell's stance when addressing the media earlier Wednesday. "I think we have to now," Vincent said of removing the hip-drop tackle. "I think a year ago when we actually brought the hip-drop or the version of the tackle that we were seeing on the video, there were some clips that we had no clue what we were talking about. In their mind, never saw it before, don't teach it. Others were not actually teaching a version of it with the intent of injuring a player, but versions of the tackle. All of this is in that family of when we saw the hawk tackle and people adjusting to getting the head out of the game. "One thing that we can do today is define what that is. It is the grip, it's the rotate and it's the drop. Those three mechanics show up on that play." The hip-drop tackle has become a topic of conversation as of late due to injuries caused by the style of takedown. On Monday night, Miami Dolphins superstar receiver Tyreek Hill suffered an ankle injury when he was tackled in a hip-drop style, missing nearly two full quarters of action before deciding to play through the pain in the second half of Miami's eventual loss to the Tennessee Titans. In the college ranks, Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis suffered a broken leg as a result of a hip-drop tackle, ending his season and eventually leading to a controversial snub of the Seminoles by the College Football Playoff selection committee. The NFL has already gone out of its way to eliminate other forms of contact in the best interest of player safety. Horse-collar tackles were outlawed after receiver Terrell Owens suffered a broken ankle when he was brought down by the rear collar of his shoulder pads late in the 2004 season, and the NFL has made a continued effort to take the head out of the game, penalizing players for initiating contact with their helmet. The hip-drop tackle could be next. "It's a gruesome play," Vincent told reporters on Wednesday. Quote
Super User gim Posted December 16, 2023 Super User Posted December 16, 2023 I had to actually look up the term “hip drop tackle.” The link I posted below summarizes what it is, and the leg/knee/ankle injuries that often result. I guess I’m not sure if defenders are specifically going in there with the intent of using this type of tackle. The play happens so fast that you just wrap up and tackle. https://www.usatoday.com/story/graphics/2023/11/22/nfl-what-is-a-hip-drop-tackle/71660167007/ Quote
throttleplate Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 how would the refs controll that, thats basically how you tackle unless you just throw your body at their legs? really, can anyone explain on how a tackler is supposed to tackle a runner if you cant grab onto their waist from behind? Smaller players like cornerbacks allready get out of the way of big running backs, i see it every game so most they do is try to grab with their arms from the side or the brave ones throw their body at the side of the legs and others grab onto the waist hip drop style and ride them down. 2 Quote
Super User gim Posted December 16, 2023 Super User Posted December 16, 2023 Definitely smaller defenders have to wrap up the legs of bigger running backs and tight ends to make tackles. That’s literally the only way they can do it. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 16, 2023 Global Moderator Posted December 16, 2023 This is all so stupid. The only reason anyone is hip drop tackling is because they get flagged for any other tackle. Can’t hit the head can’t hit the legs can’t drive to the ground can’t land on them, all that’s left is hip drop. All these rules about not trying to get injured are such a joke, if you are scared to get injured stay home and lay on bubble wrap. Some people have to risk their lives at work everyday for $15/hour. 6 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted December 16, 2023 Super User Posted December 16, 2023 I agree, it seems like an unenforceable rule with a lot of gray area. Some of the other tackling rules I am fine with though. Head hunting seems unnecessary and taking out someone’s knees is a recipe for a potential career ending injury. The rule where you cannot tackle the QB and then land on top of him is stupid. They created that rule after Anthony Barr tackled Aaron Rodgers in 2018 and dubbed it the Rodgers rule. Like your supposed to just magically do some kind of mid air matrix thing. 2 Quote
RipzLipz Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Probably not too far off from flags hanging from their precious hips & high heeled cleats. 1 Quote

Super User gim Posted December 18, 2023 Super User Posted December 18, 2023 The Cowboys have the largest margin of victory at home in the entire league. They are a juggernaut at home but they are only an average team on the road. They are likely going to finish as the 5 seed and all of their playoff games will be on the road. That’s a tough sell to win 3 playoff games as a visitor. They play the Dolphins next week, also on the road. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 18, 2023 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 18, 2023 Hope you have other plans this Monday night. Eagles are going to crush the Hawks in a very lopsided victory. It's going to be another boring MNF blowout game.....unless of course you're an Eagles fan. 1 Quote

Seattle is a tough place to play as a visiting team and Hurts may not be playing. He is listed as questionable because of an illness and did not fly to Seattle on the same plane as the rest of the team. Might see Mariota in there tonight. 1 1 Quote
RipzLipz Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 @Dwight Hottle I wouldn’t be so sure about that these days! Besides, I’m usually much happier when I pay the bar tab, at least until morning! @TnRiver46 Bungles might not have any starters left at skill positions once playoffs arrive! 😳😳😳 3 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted December 18, 2023 Super User Posted December 18, 2023 Dallas just showed how weak of a team they are by their showing Sunday. They have the easiest schedule in the league and beat up on bad teams. The sign of a good team is beating teams, road or home and winning games you don't think they should but finding a way to win. Baltimore looked tough and ready to play and of course the game tonight means a lot for the Eagles as it will all but lock up the NFC east and keep the hope alive for the #1 seed. I hope Buffalo can somehow make the playoffs because I can promise you nobody wants to play them. 1 Quote

Its astonishing to me that they have losses to the Jets, Patriots, and Broncos. They showed a stat yesterday that when they win, they have the second largest margin of victory, but when the lose, its the smallest margin of victory in the league. That tells me they choke in close games. Bill Parcells said it best: You are what your record is. In this particular case, the Bills are 8-6 but I firmly believe they are much better than their record indicates. That's just my opinion based on the talent and stats. In the case with Dallas, their road woes are well documented. As was the case yesterday. 1 Quote
