Hula Popper Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 I started the topic "Best Baitcaster Under $100" and got some great replies. Thanks guys. However, I actually chose one to get for a little over $100, the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Record. Now, I don't know what rod to get. I am getting the 6.3:1 gear ratio reel, and want a medium action rod that I can be versatile with. Also, I'd like it to be $40 or less. I know that is cheap for a rod, but like I said, I am on a tight budget. I would really appreciate any replies. Quote
Super User flechero Posted October 25, 2006 Super User Posted October 25, 2006 If you have to stay under $40, go with a Berkley Lightning Rod or wait for Academy to put the AllStar classics on sale. (they do about every other month) The last time I was in Wal-Mart, I saw some Daiwa rods for either $29 or $39... I can't vouch for them but the looked like a decent rod for the price. Good luck with your search Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted October 25, 2006 Super User Posted October 25, 2006 HI HULA POPPER, I MENTIONED THE ABUGARCIA D5 ON YOUR OTHER THREAD BECAUSE YOU ASKED FOR UNDER $100. OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE SUGGESTED THE RECORD. YOU CHOSE A VERY GOOD REEL. I'VE HAD A RECORD SINCE JULY AND I LOVE IT. DID YOU GET THE 40 OR 50 SERIES? FLECHERO GAVE YOU SOME GOOD ADVICE ON THE BERKLEY LIGHTNING ROD. FOR THE MONEY IT'S PRETTY NICE. BEFORE I GOT MY ST. CROIX RODS I USED BERKLEY CHERRYWOOD AND LIGHTNING RODS. ENJOY THE NEW RECORD AND LET ME KNOW HOW YOU LIKE IT. FALCON Quote

I am going to get it Saturday, but I haven't decided whether to get the 40 or 50 series yet. I know I sound clueless posting so many questioms that are probably really elementary, but what is the difference and which one is better and/or cheaper? Thanks Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted October 25, 2006 Super User Posted October 25, 2006 Between the 40 and 50 series Records, the only difference is weight and line capacity. Same gear ratio, same price... Quote
Hula Popper Posted October 25, 2006 Author Posted October 25, 2006 Thanks Chris. I was talking to my granpa who has the Record that I have used. He said a Ugly Stik Lite in a medium action was a good one. Another Elementary Question: What does the "Lite" mean in "Ugly Stik Lite." BTW, I'll probably get the 50 series Record. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted October 25, 2006 Super User Posted October 25, 2006 I don't think you're gonna find a lot of folks around here who recommend Ugly Sticks If you have a BPS near you, I believe they're selling Bionic Blades in store for $50. If not, they're $60 sold through BPS online. I think these rods would be a better choice, and are in your price 'ballpark'. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted October 25, 2006 Super User Posted October 25, 2006 I FORGOT ABOUT THE BIONIC BLADES BEING ON SALE.............MUCH BETTER CHOICE. Quote
