i have a 94 year old neighbor.  she called me the other night as i was sliding under my bedsheets.  i almost didnt pick up the phone!!  anyways, i did and i could hear she was having trouble breathing and she said, "i feel bad".  she asked for my nurse wife.  we dressed quick and i have her house key so we made entry.  we found her sweating crazy.  it was dripping from her nose tip.  she couldnt stand.  she said she wants to vomit but cant.  i said immediately.  "heart-attack".  i am not a big Roseanne Barr fan,  but i remember her interview recounting her own cardiac event.  i remember her symptoms were so different from a male event.  we get usual suspects.

my neighbor didnt have chest pains.  we called 911, and had her chew an aspirin.  she complied and the paramedics showed up so quick.  i was suprised the guy was asking questions aimed at male symptoms.  any chest pain?  left arm pain?  WHAT?  i chimed in..(typical me).  "dude, get her to hospital.  it is a heart attack!"  the paramedic being a total professional totally ignores me.  hahah..rightly so.

well, she is in the hospital  yup.  heart attack.  i am caring for her cat, and the old lady uses NON-CLUMPING cat litter.  the heck?!  that stuff is gross.  i cleaned it up and replaced it with our own litter.  if i have to do this for a few days, i am not messing with subpar litter. :D

keep in mind folks.  a woman's heart attack is a very different event.  lets watch out for each other.

woman's event = sweating, shortness of breath, nausea, etc.  maybe no pain at all.  crazy.

You may have saved her life Darth.  Pat yourself on the back for answering the phone and checking on her.

I read a story several years ago that has freaked me out ever since. A man in his 30s was on a hiking trip with friends. For a couple days he was experiencing symptoms of indigestion, and naturally thought that's all it was. He eventually dropped dead of a heart attack. Apparently symptoms of indigestion can be something far more serious.

Glad you were there for her!

I hope she recovers with no lasting effects.

I lost a cousin to a heart attack seven years ago. Similar symptoms as your neighbor. She thought she had the flu or something. She called her daughter, and asked her to check on her in the morning. She didn't make it through the night. Definitely a different deal for women.

Glad you were able to help her.  I've got a Nephew? (Nieces husband) in the hospital right now fighting for his life.  He didn't have any of the "man" symptoms.   He was dizzy, sweating really bad, especially on his head, and out of breath.  The urgent care his Wife took him to said he had pneumonia.   After several days of worsening symptoms he ended up at a hospital......they sent him to a different hospital.   He had quadruple bypass surgery late Thursday.   He seemed OK yesterday but "flatlined" (the word my niece used) early this morning.   I was on the lake, but closer to the hospital than anyone.  I left the lake and went so my niece wasn't alone until some more people got there.    They have him on a ventilator, and are sending him to yet another hospital.  One of the bypasses is kinked.   The put a stent in the kinked bypass.   He's in his early 40's.

Never mind.

Haha. I’m caring for her home and cat now.

im not ready for everyone in her social club to call me.  I’ll give them your number.  Plus as a non family member, docs and nurses don’t tell me squat.
mi sit with her at the hospital everyday and the staff tells me nothing. Not even when they plan in discharging her.

her social club won’t visit her. They just want to call me   They did kick in and have flowers delivered.

I was kidding. You’re going way beyond what you have to do. Sucks that she’s alone.  You can give them my number. It’s 867-5309.
