Like a guitar that has the perfect sound, a baseball bat that feels just right, or a shotgun that naturally points just right.  Some Crankbaits for some unknown reason, simply catch more fish.

Poe's RC-1?  I still have a handful of old Poe's (RC1 RC3 and the non-flat sided) in my box. Most have large chunks of paint missing. That was the only detriment of those lures. They hammer bass for sure.

I have a baby 1- that is special that I use sparingly.  While I have 8 more of what looks like the same bait none work like this special one. What I have found is occasionally it will kick twice to the same side during retrieval. Of the top 10 biggest crankbait bass caught in my life this one bait accounts for 6 of them including the biggest.

This is my most prized bait . I had two lost one in a tree. This one does hunt , doesnt have a lot of action , no rattles and bass choke on it. Its a vintage Rogers Big Jim , the small size.

I am definitely superstitious about my lures.  I fish a lot with people who have less much extensive lure habits than me.  Many of them are long time friends that I am generous with sharing tackle with.  However, often they will want to try something they don't have, and the conversation will go something like this.  "Sure, help yourself to my tackle boxes.  Umm, not that one.  Not that one either.  No, not that one, but I have a brand new one that is still in the box exactly like that one under the seat.  Use that one."  Most of my friends have figured out that the more thrashed a lure is, the more likely that it is off limits.

This thread has inspired me.  I am going to make special 3700 box that is dubbed "The Billy Baroos".  I will store it at the front of the boat with me.

I had a Sammy that was 15 years old and had caught hundreds of topwater bass.  Then one day a couple of years ago while on the Rappahonock River trying to get a cast way up in a creek mouth, I had my reel engage mid cast and heard that gut wrenching pop.  I waited hoping that I heard a splash but instead heard it land way up in the tall fragmites where there was no way to go get it, even from land.  I had a brand new one that I tied on the same rod and reel and it has failed to even come close to the fish catching ability of my old one.  Confidence? Not really.  I just don’t think it is the same.

It probably isn't. I have a ton of them, but old one eye Sammy is the fish catcher.

Some Rapala DT's suspend perfectly.  Some, rise and a few fall.  The ones that suspect are the fish catchers.

And here we see a Rogers Big Jim in its native environment - a bird's nest. ?

Love that color and sheen. I can see why that is a killer.

In an attempt to quickly fire off a cast at schooling bass, I hooked the back of a seat .

I think I remember you talking about that bait when I joined BR over six years ago.

Curious as to how one would tune a crank bait...... changing hooks ?

Only have a few variations, Spro, 6 sense, bomber and KVD.

Depending on the manufacturer there are a few ways to tune a crank.  Bend the line tie, file the bill, change the hooks or hangers you can even go so far as to use suspend dots.
