Super User A-Jay Posted July 24, 2023 Author Super User Posted July 24, 2023 Forgot to finish this one off. I remembered I had a third dead unit in the tackle room. (not any more) No doubt the first two rounds I lobbed at that left hand unit weren't anything to write home about. Starting feeling a little better about myself after squeezing off a couple into the right hand unit. And then managed to tightened things up a bit on that center unit. Graded out as 'barely acceptable' by my own standards. btw ~ The Graph Glass didn't stand up. A-Jay 1 Quote
VolFan Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 That may be a little more impact than the ‘impact-resistant’ glass can deflect… 1 Quote

Susky River Rat Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I somewhat just did what you did. I was trying to pick new units for the new rig I’ll be getting. I ended up going to the updated versions of what I have. Nothing fancy but, for where I fish most the time they will do more the required of them. I listened to a musky podcast awhile back. The one guy is a guide and said every few years he deletes all his waypoints. He commented how this way you do not get stuck in old patterns for life. 1 Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Thanks for the rundown @A-Jay! I'm running Garmin Echomap 7SV on my old Minn Kota 40lb trolling motor. I've been eying a new boat and have been bouncing back and forth between Garmin and Minn Kota / Hbird for a while. I like the touch screen Garmin, but really don't mess with it on the water much. The Solix isn't worth the extra $$ in my mind. You bring up great point with the touch screen and keeping them clean. When I'm on the water I almost never touch the screen...I have pre-set buttons to toggle between the views I need. My brother is running an Ulterra with built in MEGA DI/SI transducer, and has Helix 9 MEGS SI's on bow and console on his Lund Alaskan. They are not networked together. I really like his set up...and it seems his Humminbirds show way more detail than my Garmin. I only have the GT-54 transducer. I've also contemplated Ulterra vs. Ultrex. I looking hard at a used Lund 1775 Adventure with 90hp Mercury. Pretty sure I'm going with the Ulterra 80lb MEGA DI/SI (legacy version), and Helix 9's on bow and console. Networking them together. Should serve me well chasing LMBs, Smallies, Musky/Pike, Eyes, and panfish. 1 Quote
