Super User Darth-Baiter Posted July 20, 2023 Super User Posted July 20, 2023 Ford..no Chevy!..wait..what is the debate? ahhh...flouro or Braid. i am 90% straight Flouro on all my baitcasters. just how i roll. i for one, have never looked at my friends reels to see what line they are using. never asked either. i dont make anyones choice, so they dont make mine. only thing that hates my choice are the bass. 2 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 20, 2023 Super User Posted July 20, 2023 The only reason I use Fluorocarbon line is it’s low coefficient of drag going through water and it’s heavier then water. The combination of factors results less line bow therefore better lure feedback with bottom contact lures like worms and jigs. The downside is weaker line with lower knot strength and abrasion resistance compared to mono line of the same diameter. Today I use 7 lb Sniper FC for spinning drop shot and 5 lb Maxima Ultra Green copoly for spinning finesse where I don’t want the line dragging on the bottom like FC does. Casting I use 12 lb Tatsu for worms and jigs and 11 lb Deifier Armilo Nylon Mono for everything else. Bait casting reels I could use Armilo for everything. Tom 2 Quote
Pogues2300 Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 I love braid to leader for the casting/handling of the braid and the versatility of being able to just change leaders or not use a leader depending on what I’m doing. I also seem to be in the minority I guess that I don’t seem to suffer from “ckf” (chronic knot failure) 2 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 20, 2023 Super User Posted July 20, 2023 No, you are part of the majority that have no issues with knot failure. This is the rule: If it ain't perfect, it ain't good enough. 3 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted July 20, 2023 Super User Posted July 20, 2023 I'm all over the board with line - it all depends on the technique I'm using Mono, FC, Hybrid (YZH only, please), Braid to Leader, Straight Braid...I use them all 1 Quote

These are numbers picked out of the air - by no means accurate, but just to show the difference. 8# Mono vs 8# FC The Mono will start to stretch at around 3#-4# of force The FC won't start stretching until you hit 5#-6# of force. Main difference is that Mono will 'rebound' and be just as strong, while FC doesn't rebound and will remain stretched thereby weakening it. Right, for the most part I pretty much agree with what you're saying. With InzivX it feels like there's an initial stretch at fairly low load, like 1/4 or 1/3 breaking strength, which is what I refer to as a practical load. Once you get to like 3/4 breaking strength of consistent pressure, you can feel the line stretch again generally followed by a breakage. Quote

JackstrawIII Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Braid to leader is on 100% of my spinning setups, but I don't love it on a casting rod. Not sure why, it just feels wrong. For casting, I mostly use YZ hybrid line, but I also use some InvisX fluoro and 832 braid for certain techniques when their attributes (like sinking for the fluoro or grass management with the braid) are especially needed.
