is the baby brush hog too big for me? And other questions

I live in colorado and fish pressured waters most times. The fish i catch rage from .5 pounds to maybe 2-3 pounds tops. I get lots of luck for smallmouth using the baby rage craw. I get most of my largemouth on 4 inch wacky rigs and baby rage craws. should i try the baby brush hog or get the tiny ones? I like numbers but want to start chasing bigger fish but it is hard in denver.  I ordered some baby rage bugs, uv speed craws, and small yamamoto craws too, looking mainly for bigger fish and expanding my inventory. I fish texas rigs only right now. Also if anyone has any soft plastics they think would work for me in denver, co. Also do you think the baits i mentioned i ordered would work? thanks.

Well, I need to give you the bait monkey answer. Get both. My motto in life is, “Better to have and not need than to need and not have.”

Really! Just this season, I went a local shop to replenish my supply of baby brush hogs but I wasn’t paying attention and unknowingly bought a pack of tiny brush hogs. I know of brush hogs and baby brush hogs but I never heard of a tiny brush hog. Heck, I didn’t even realize until a few weeks later when I was fishing, nothing was working. T-rig and wacky  5” senkos, 3” senkos, drop shotted 3” senkos standard and wacky rigged and nothing. So I went through my bag looking for the baby brush hogs and discovered I had tiny brush hogs. Oh well. I  T-rigged it with a 1/4oz weight and tossed it where I threw the other lures and bam. A nice 2.5 -3 lb bass smashed it in seconds.

Hmmmm. Tiny brush hogs? You’ve earned a spot in my rotation.

@dolo-dinker

I fish a lot of Texas rigged too. I like having different baits on hand. When I did a lot of wade fishing, I’d use ziplocks and make smaller packs to lighten the load.

I think what you ordered is good, but you can’t have enough plastics in my book.
As far as targeting big bass, I think that’s what we all do. I’ve caught the smallest fish on a 12” jelly worm and some of the bigger fish on a 3” Ned rig……go figure

That tiny brush hog is good. Matches the size profile of a small sunfish, trout, etc. I’ve only fished it on a small jig head, to date. But I fully intend to throw it on a drop shot and a 1/16th oz Texas rig at some point soon.

Man, the weight was about the size of the lure! ? Was the weight pegged in this case or free-sliding?

The Baby Brush Hog should be fine as well as the Tiny Brush Hog. I have caught 2 LMB, 2 SMB, and1 Spotted Bass recently on the Tiny Brush Hog. I fish it Texas rigged with a1/16 oz sinker pegged and a size 1, not 1/0 Gamakatsu offset round bend hook on a spinning rod.

Tiny brush hogs are great, but theyre really small, like micro jig trailer small.  The baby brush hog is probably the most versatile size in the series, although I havent seen or used the midsize yet.

…I might have a use for that.

I should have added in my other post I rig the Baby Brush Hog on a 2/0 offset round bend hook with an 1/8 ounce sinker on a baitcaster. I get a lot better hook up ratio with them than an EWG hook.
