Time to do some trading…

If you follow my posts you’ve probably figured out that I like to try new things a lot and I trade a lot. 
I have two rods that I just don’t love. 

Rod 1- Megabass Orochi Perfect Pitch

Rod 2- Megabass Orochi XX Diablo Spec R

 

I use the perfect pitch mostly for magdrafts and shine glides. 
I use the Diablo mostly for chatterbaits. 

 

I need some ideas on what rods to look at to replace these. 
 

Fyi I have some others that are serviceable but not the best for these techniques - Falcon expert all around, Falcon lowrider head Turner, shimano expride 72mh all ok for Chatterbait. 
Falcon Expert Amistad XH could work for the magdrafts. 
 

I do not like glass rods. 
 

What do y’all think?

I have a 7'6 HF Falcon Cara rod for magdrafts. Ive only used it a couple of times, but I like how it handles swimbaits up to 2oz.

I’m going to say Okuma TCS A line. They offer a 7’ hvy mod fast or the 7’/3” hvy fast for your chatterbaits.

So what was it that you didn't love about these rods?

They are heavy, ugly to me, not as sensitive as my experts which are less money, don’t handle their specified weight ranges imo.

Actually, those are both excellent for chatterbaits. I was thinking more about the Amistad XH for a magdraft when I said that. 

Maybe I’ll sell them both and see what the fuss is about on a nrx+

I don’t fish a magdraft but I do fish bigger Keitechs. My regular expert amistad will go up to about 2.5 oz well enough. If you’re talking about the 6” magdraft at an ounce and a half then either of the amistads will do that. If you mean the 8” then it will need to be the extra heavy or the superduty. 
 

if you want to replace the Diablo, the Hudson special is basically the same power and lure, though more moderate fast than fast. It’s like a more powerful all round. If you want a bit more power for chatterbaits then the cara heavy cover jig is a really good rod. 1/2-1 oz rated, 7’4” fast action but not super fast. I was throwing a 3/8 chatterbait with it last week and it was fine, but it’s a great rod for a 1/2 plus big trailer. I also pitch with it a lot and it’s the same rod I landed the 40” class musky on from my last trip report.

You think my Amistad XH is too fast for the treble hook 6” magdraft?

I don’t know, I don’t have an extra heavy.  The regular certainly isn’t too fast for that. In fact I think the regular amistad would be a perfect rod for the 6”.

I'm not sure how you feel about your expride, but the 7'7H/MF is an interesting rod for me for bigger treble hook baits, glides and magdrafts, and lots of single hook baits, as well.  I have the A version which is rated to 2oz, so I'm not sure if the B series changed up the action any.

Have you tried Dobyns rods? Not my favorite for bottom contact, but for moving baits they are hard to beat. The Champion XP 734c is a killer chatterbait rod. I think it’s 5oz but it is so balanced it is practically weightless in hand with any reel

@PBBrandon Definitely a consideration. I love Dobyns. I currently have Dobyns Kaden 610-4CB, Dobyns Maverick 734c, Dobyns Champion XP 684c, Dobyns Champion DX746, and Dobyns Champion 804c c-rig special. 
 

Champ 734 is supposed to be one of their most popular I think. I need to get one.

Yeah the 734c really is a special rod. Any lure in the 3/8-1/2oz range is in its wheelhouse. Slow enough for moving baits, but still fast enough for jigs and t-rigs in a pinch. I like a little backbone in my chatterbait rod for setting those jig hooks. I’m not a fan of glass rods either.

 

Hows the 610-4cb Kaden? I’ve almost pulled the trigger on getting one a few times for 110jrs and little cranks. They feel nice in hand at the store.

I’m the same with my jackhammers. I like to drive the hookset in. I like this choice. I’ll probably use my current Amistad XH for magdrafts (Falcon says it’s a good swimbait rod on their site), get the 734c for chatters and whatever the I want to use with It, and then get something else just for the heck of It. Maybe a So Cal or Amistad. @casts_by_fly any experience with the so cal? 
 

I love my 610-4cb! Perfect 110 and LC 1.5 rod. Rk crawler 50 too. It’s one of my most specialized rods so I don’t use It that much but it’s my favorite for these techniques. This rod replaced a tatula elite jerkbait rod that was like a noodle. Hated that thing. 
 

I did try a 2.5 crank on It and It was a little heavy. I now use my Expert All Around for 2.5s, jabberjaws, etc.

Irod IQ783SB for premium cork, lighter weight swimbait rod, not over $200 looks and fishes well over it’s price point.

No experience with the so cal. If you want an interesting one for the heck of it, the swim jig is a great rod.

I was fishing the swim jig a bunch last night.  I think its my new favorite buzzbait rod for a 3/8 buzzbait with 30 lb 832.  Since I picked it up its mostly had a buzzbait, swim jig, or light texas rig on it.  Sweet 'little' rod with a pretty fast tip but also not a ton of power up high on the rod so it has a lot of great flex.  It's like the all-round if it had a more refined taper- lighter and better tip, more support in the mid section for that tip, and about the same total power in the butt.

 

I threw my heavy cover jig last night a lot in a way I've never done before- as a spinnerbait rod.  At 7'4" I would have though it a bit long for that but it wasn't.  My head turner was occupied with a chatterbait so I figured why not.  I'm coming to really like the HCJ for a lot of things now.
