Person01 Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 Does anyone have experience with Okuma baitcasters? I hear a lot about Shimano and Daiwa but not much about Okuma. What is everyone’s thoughts on the Okuma Citrix Low Profile. I couldn’t find any reviews on it online. It’s currently around 50% off. Are these reels made by Okuma or Doyo? It weighs 11oz compared to 7.1oz for the Lews speed spool lfs. I’m assuming a heavier reel would equate to a shorter casting distance? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 14, 2023 Global Moderator Posted July 14, 2023 I like Okuma, have several of their baitcasters. Sounds like that is their swimbait model and not the standard Citrix. The 364A is the swimbait sized reel, much larger than a standard baitcaster. It's a good reel, I've used one for a few years now, but unless you're slinging big baits with it, it's not going to be what you want. Quote

There is no direct correlation between reel weight and casting distance. Reels don’t cast baits, the rod does that. Good reels just help you maximize the cast with good free spool and braking profile. None of it makes any difference if the user isn’t skilled. 1 Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 Never used an Okuma BC, but have used some their older spinning reels like the Epixor, which was a really solid reel for the money. Okuma usually does a good job with product quality and value, especially with rods. Quote

ska4fun Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 They were in-home gear, but the last models are banax projects, like the Komodo and Citrix series of baitcasters. Superb heavy-duty low-profile reels. Quote
Fishin Dad Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 I have an Okuma Helios. One of the first baitcasters I bought. It is still flawless. It has been a great reel. The only thing I don’t like about it is it does not have externally adjustable brakes. I really like the reel and would not hesitate to buy another one. Quote
MiceNReets Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 Have the Okuma Helios, Komodo 273 and 364, Helios SX and hakai. All great reels. Those hakai reels are fantastic and a lot of reel for the money. the Okuma Helios/Helios TCS are really solid and well built. Mine has been taking abuse for 9-10yrs frog fishing and still going strong like day one. Quote
