Jeffrey Walker Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 Is livescope a type of sonar or is it a brand? is live scope the same thing as forward facing sonar? If it’s a type, which is the best? Can it be used with a Garmin striker and if so which ones? Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 14, 2023 Super User Posted July 14, 2023 Edit your title! Live Scope is a trade name. Forward Scanning Sonar is a type of scanning sonar vs 360 degree or side scanning sonar. The big difference is “live” vs displayed images that tradition sonar displays scrolling across the screen are a history not real time. Live doesn’t scan it’s stationary and user can point it directional to look at a specific area. Combined with scanning sonar the operate knows where to point the “live” imaging. Tom 2 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted July 14, 2023 Super User Posted July 14, 2023 Garmin owns Live Scope and to my knowledge was the first to introduce it to the commercial market. Active Target is Lowrances version, and Hummingbird has MegaLive All forms of Forward Facing Sonar. No it can't be used with the Striker series, you need a LVS 32/34 transducer a GL10 blackbox, and then a compatible Garmin chartplotter to run Garmin's Live Scope. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted July 14, 2023 Global Moderator Posted July 14, 2023 Remember way back when they called it panoptics? Panoptix? That so 2019 1 Quote

You aim FFS at a target, and it's real time 360 is unique to Hummingbird, and it's a 360 degree view in a 125ft circle radius of your boat position, works similar to side imaging MEGA 360 Imaging® - Humminbird (johnsonoutdoors.com) 1 Quote
Jeffrey Walker Posted July 15, 2023 Author Posted July 15, 2023 If you could have 2 screens or 2 setups which would be the most ideal? i still don’t know the difference? Quote

Humminbird is the only one that offers 360 sonar, so that is unique to them. Mega live, live scope, and active target are all similar versions of live sonar which is also referred to as forward facing sonar. Edit your thread title. It’s not live scooe lol Quote
Jeffrey Walker Posted July 15, 2023 Author Posted July 15, 2023 lol, i don’t know how to edit the title, sorry. So which is best for lake fishing i’m getting a dual monitor setup, want to get a traditional sonar and something forward facing or 360 or whatever Quote

Garmin Livescope LVS34 on the biggest size Garmin chartplotter screen size you can afford...touchscreen models even better. This unit would be dedicated to the Livescope Second unit would be a 12" Garmin Echomap Ultra Chartplotter with the included transducer that has down/side scan, along with charts/maps. A third unit at the console of the boat would be ideal as well if you're in a traditional Bass rig. I'm nobody, this is just what I'd run. Quote
Jeffrey Walker Posted July 15, 2023 Author Posted July 15, 2023 We’re talking kayak here, so i’m thinking 2 7-9in screens at most. Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 15, 2023 Super User Posted July 15, 2023 Kayak....how far do you want to push a boat that tips over? Better off putting 100 lbs of gear costing over 3k in a boat like a Jon modV. Tom 2 Quote
Jeffrey Walker Posted July 15, 2023 Author Posted July 15, 2023 Gonna get the new titan x model coming out. This will be my bass boat 2 Quote

You don’t know the difference? One looks all around you hence 360 degrees. One looks forward hence forward facing. 16 hours ago, gimruis said: Edit your thread title. Did you or did you not know what he meant? 15 hours ago, Jeffrey Walker said: We’re talking kayak here, so i’m thinking 2 7-9in screens at most. I don’t think that you can get a 7” livescope compatible screen. 9” garmin is what I would go with on a kayak with lvs 34. That’s all I’d need on a kayak. My other graphs on the bass boat are relegated to mapping duties basically now. But on a kayak that’s not as important since you are running far. You can use your phone with navionics app. Quote

Super User WRB Posted July 15, 2023 Super User Posted July 15, 2023 Titles are easy to edit, click on the 3 dots upper right corner of your post to open the edit feature. My spelling and finger typing skills are poor and use the edit feature all the time. Trying to decipher what a member is thinking is mind reading, why not correct the mis spelling so we make stupid guesses? Tom 1 Quote
