Super User gim Posted July 13, 2023 Super User Posted July 13, 2023 Unfortunately there was really no factory-installed or predetermined passenger/co-angler rod storage when I bought my boat in 2015. As a short term solution, I installed a bungee cord rod strap in the location you can see in the photos. I haven't come up with anything better since. My passengers usually bring anywhere from 3-5 rod n reels with. Anything more than 3 or 4 stored here becomes cumbersome. I make sure the butts of the rods are always against the transom when towing and on plane. Some newer versions of style boat I own come with specific dedicated rod storage for the passenger. Any thoughts or ideas on a better solution to this? I'd prefer to not drill large holes anywhere. Quote
airshot Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 Actually, I nade the same setup on my boat with bungee cord kit. Same reasons you did, mine have held 5 rods with no issues towing or running. I do have three straps crossing over the rods. Actually put my own rods there when I can, much quicker to get to them !! Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted July 14, 2023 Super User Posted July 14, 2023 When I fish out of my dads tracker 162 we do the same. The passenger running seat stays folded down. My rods in the back are facing forward but with the reels where the end of the back deck ends and hanging down below the deck level. That gives me the full back deck to not step on a rod. His rods are facing backwards and they interlace with mine. He’s only got a 20 hp due to hp restrictions so when we run the big motor I just sit on the front deck by the front seat. 1 Quote
Super User Solution MickD Posted July 14, 2023 Super User Solution Posted July 14, 2023 I don't have a better idea and want to point out that whatever you do, do not allow the tips of the rods to bump into any vertical walls/bulkheads/structure. Tips can easily be broken from such contact when boating through rough water. 1 Quote
airshot Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 I found my rods sliding a bit with two straps, added the third strap in the middle and no mire sliding rods, even in choppy seas. Quote
