Tire shine

I recently had to replace the tires and wheels on my boat trailer.  They haven’t had time to “bloom” yet.  Every tire shine product I’ve tried washes off with a couple of trips to the lake.  Is there anything that will last for quite a while?

Depends on what the “look” you want is.  Glossy shine or dark rubber.  Personally I go for the most protective that has no silicone and contains UV inhibitors.  I like the deep black rubber look so I use 303 Aerospace Protectant about once a month.  It also goes on my seats and Road Armor ranger trailer as well as the tires on my truck.  I’ve never had a tire dry rot or sun crack.

Works great on tires.  If you want a higher gloss like my truck tires, don’t wipe it off.  There will be runs and it will drive you crazy but they disappear when it dries. It will dull after a few dunking but the protection is more permanent.  Some even use it on the fiberglass but I do not.  I want something that holds a bit better.  I buy it by the gallon?

I go through a gallon per year of Aerospace 303 UV protectant and use on everything that is rubber, vinyl and plastic...... good stuff.

I use the 303 also on the GTO’s tires, rubber, vinyl etc. 

Most tire gels have silicone which attracts dust, dirt, pollution and everything else that’s in the air. 
 

It gives a nice satin look with excellent UV protection that is a must down here. 
 

Won’t use anything else.

i need to get some 303.

 

but back to the tires.  i bedazzle my wifes Tesla tires.  i had to AJAX them first.  i use BlackMagic tire foam.

 

personally, i cant stand the shiny tire thing.  but i understand.

303 is not shiny at all compared to all the tire gels and creams like Armor All, Endurance and others which also do nothing fir protection.

I'm a bit of a clean rig freak and do it whenever I can.

Wheels & tires have been a challenge, especially trailer tires.

Never could get a look & a system for cleaning, that I liked.

I've used 303 products mentioned above and they are really good.

But any tire dressing that 'lasts' . . . . doesn't.

So I've gone a different route.

No real need for me to expect my wheels & tires to 'stay' clean longer than the test of the rig. 

 So I clean the wheels & tire together, and then apply a product that is super light.

Meaning it doesn't last long but it does clean off easy.

A clean tire is better able to accept the dressing and have that 'flat' natural rubber look I prefer. 

 

I use this to clean them (follow the directions)

and this to dress them.

 

 

Sort of unconventional, but looks right and lasts long enough for me.

Super easy too because after the rig is clean & dry, the last thing I do is spray the Lucas on the tires,

wipe the excess off the wheel (comes off easy) and let them dry over night.

Done

And it does a nice job on the interior too, but I wipe that stuff dry. 

 

Use the same deal on my truck wheels & ties.

I put armor all tire shine on my truck tires but I've never put it on my boat trailer tires.  I realize that it really doesn't offer much for protection from UV sun rays, I only apply it because I think it looks good.  My truck and boat trailer are almost always in the garage when not in use so UV rays are not really an issue with me personally.

I get it

The problem with products like Armor All is that they are topical dressings. 
What I like about products like 303 is that they absorb into the rubber which keeps them from drying out as fast.
The enviro protection is a bonus 

I keep my GTO garage kept all the time also, heck it doesn’t come out even if it thinks about raining! ?

 

It all depends on what you like and how you use it.

I go through 2-3 gallons of Superior Cover All a year.  It makes everything look better and stays pretty good as well.  Perhaps not as penetrating as 303, but half the price and in a side by side test lasted about as long but I can't say there was any science behind that other than "yep, still looks clean" vs not.  $35/gal https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/superior-products/superior-products-1-gallon-tire-shine/scp0/f751?q=cover+all&pos=1

 

It does an amazing job on the black plastic stuff on your car, boat, wheeler, snowmobile as well....

I used to clean and scrub my tires every time I washed the truck.  Used Simple Green and a brush on them.  I then found out that every time I scrubbed them and got that black residue, I was shortening the life of the tire.  Simple Green is a light degreaser so it was dissolving the factory infused protective coating on my tires.  It’s the coating that if not treated gets an orange hue to it on the tire.  It’s an emulsifier.  Now, I rarely scrub my tires.  Only when I get in some mud and then do a double treatment of 303.

What I have looks good but like I said it doesn’t last.  I don’t want to reapply every trip or every other trip.  
 

I keep Bow to Stern on the boat so usually a wipe down with a wet rag keeps it clean.  Five minutes does the job.  If I could just get the tires to stay shiny.

Suggestion

Instead of using a caustic product like Simple Green, try Bleche-White Tire Cleaner. 
 

It’s designed to do what you want without altering the tires composition. 
I first tried it on the tires white lettering and now use it to clean all rubber. 
All it does is clean.

You might be right but the last time I used it was on my jeep wrangler with American Racing rims.  It almost ruined them.  Took some heavy buffing to get them back.  I suppose I could be more careful but I now have a mental block to that product in the same way I do Armor All after all of the dashboards it cracked back in the day.  I’m sure they’ve upgraded their formula but I can’t make myself put it on anything.  ?

@TOXIC I had the same problem years ago with the ArmorAll protectant. It looked good when it was first applied but after a while, the dashboard and tires cracked and looked rotted.  I was advised by a body shop to stop using that product.  The cleaner on the other hand has always been top notch.

Yep the Graphene is a very good product.
