anyone have a home use line spooler?

Used to bow fish back in the 70’s, repurposed the rod into a spooler of sorts, not perfect but it works for me.

I just got the KastKing Radius Line Spooler.  I have used it only once. Not sure how long it will last though. I like the tension bands though.

My wife usually holds the pencil. When she’s not around I use a clothes hanger .

If it’s a 600 yard spool, use the old tennis shoe trick. Works like a charm and no line twist!!

Does it also impart a scent attractive to bass?

@gimruis, Just be sure and get an experienced associate to do your spooling! I can't tell you how many times some of our newer associates would spool a spinning reel backwards.

Ya that would be an issue.  I've been taking mine there for about 15 years now without an issue.  I'm pretty specific about which person does it though, and I tell them exactly how much line I want on each spool.

How are you even able to put enough tension on that? I feel like the line would go on the spool loose

@Justinfish It has rubber spring-loaded inserts that can be adjusted as loose or tight as you want. You can tighten it enough you can’t reel lol. 
 

I only use it for baitcasting reels. I don’t think it’s all that needed for spinning rigs.

I'm a bit stunned reading this thread.   I never considered that having a spool flopping and rolling around the floor was somehow unsatisfactory.

That’s exactly what I did before I bought the Plano box.  Doesn’t really matter because I walk all the fresh line off the spool and rewind it so there’s no loops.

I have this one at home. It will hold what I use one my baitcasters. And I just use the floor for my spinning reels

Wish I knew how to post a picture of this.  I take a wooden bar stool and turn it upside down.  I then push an elastic hair band through the line spool.  Next I stretch that hair band between 2 legs of the stool, and position the line spool in the center.  Most of the time I leave the reel on the rod and leave enough of the backing hanging from the rod tip to tie to the new line and begin reeling.  All my reels are Daiwa T Wings so there is no problem with the knot passing onto the reel.

I had that very spooling station for years.  I got tired of loose line wrapping itself around those springs.

Dowel with a cap on one end stuck into a hole on my shelf support.  Maintain tension with a wet rag covering my thumb and index finger.

Decades ago I was on a charter boat fishing for tuna and the deck hand put the spool of line in the bait tank wells to hold the wet spool. The water kept the spool with a little tension and wet the line at the same time. Simple trick and I have used a Live well with water since. At home I use a plastic bucket with a dowel in the water and use my fingers to apply a little line tension. The dowel keeps the narrow filler spool from flipping over.

This is when it helps to keep all the little odds and ends so you can frankenstein something like this together. I don't even know what that spring thing is, but it works great for this. That's a rubber washer, there's also a felt washer and metal washer. The 4X4 is for weight - a stable base. It's got a rubber pad on the bottom. Lock nut on the end of the bolt. Pretty simple. Less static than a wife. ?

Personally, I don’t like to take the reel off the rod to spool it.  I have busted reel seat retainers because most are plastic.  Plus I really wrench my reel seats tight.
