I have broke more than a few over the years and I believe maybe two of those were because of rod failures. All the rest were my fault.  I definitely would not be the one to tell what happened to your rod.

Maybe you could post a pic of the rod break and I am sure a member here could help diagnose it.

Yep.  I broke one on a high stick on Mille Lacs 2 years ago.  I also broke one deadsticking a stick bait.   The line had wrapped on the tip and I set the hook and broke it.  Both my fault.   I just don’t know what happened here.  I will just chalk it up bad luck somehow and hopefully enjoy my new ones.  That was interesting reading about the rod breaks.  Thanks!

This thread made me think about all the rods I've broken over the years. When I lived in Alaska we all ran 9'6" ultralight Loomis rods (15 years ago) we tended to just about break a rod every day when the salmon were running hard. We would just go to the hardware store and swap it out. Broke more than a couple trying to separate the two pieces after being mated far too long. Broke some in car doors or tailgates.

Have broken four different fly rods and I don't know how many 6' to 7' freshwater rods.

Maybe one of those was due to defect, it exploded into graphite toothpicks while putting pressure on a snagged 3/0. All others were 100% user error. High sticking, swinging for the fences when setting the hook, snagging in brush on the hike into the river, etc.

Normal.   Tight normal.

Have you ever tested it with a scale. I wouldn’t go much over 3lbs on a 703sf.

My kid recently had something similar happen. Was fishing a tube around a brush pile and I was a ways away and I heard “oh crap that’s a big one!” followed by a bunch of swear words. From what I could gather in a short period of time he hooked a big fish, had it go into the brush pile and shake the hook and the rod broke at the tip and again in the middle. Later on that day he tapped the rod and the second half the rod fell in the lake. It’s a Victory 6’10” ML/XF spinning rod. I filed a warranty claim on my phone but have yet to hear back but it’s still under warranty.

We set his drag around 1.8lbs.

In 2018, I leant my other kid my St Croix Mojo Bass toowater rod. He snagged a small weed and it broke. The drag was set pretty light too so I don’t fault him for it. I got a new one under warranty shortly after.

My Dobyns Fury is one of my favorite rods, but because of how many people break theirs ive put it in fishing storage and havent used it yet this season, i was just thinking about getting it to use for texas rigs and now heres another post about you breaking 4 of your Dobyns rods.

I have some nice/expensive rods but am afraid of using them for this reason, so ill stick with using the $55 Daiwas for fishing, they are cheaper to replace if i break them.

My kid has a couple Fury rods and has yet to break either. Just fish them, they’re no good sitting in a closet.

You do hear about people breaking them, but many people don’t as well. You usually don’t see posts titled “I went fishing and didn’t break my Fury today” if you catch my drift but when you do then you know there’s a problem.

give st croix a call in regards to the broken victory rod.   They’re quick to answer.   I’ve had to use the warranty claim online and some reason it’s not as quick.  Called them up and it was taken care of within minutes.    And the broken rod was my fault for the claim. Not the rods.  :)     Still they had outstanding customer service for my rod that was out of warranty by 4 years.

I called them today and they completed my claim. Unfortunately this model is backordered until 8/12 and it doesn’t make sense to get him another model because he has the 7’3 M/XF too.

Oh well at least they’ll replace it. And I can keep the broken one to make a shrine of broken rods!

nice.   8/12 isn’t too far away and you know you’ll be getting a freshly made rod.    Last time they gave me a back order date the rod ended up shipping out 2 weeks early and arrived fast.  Was worth the wait.

If i get it before then that would be great. Will be camping a week on a lake, leaving 8/12
