Reel Boxes

I was wondering if most of you keep the reel boxes? One of the first things I do is throw the box away and throw the schematic in a bok in my shed. I view reels as tools(albeit, tools I love) and I have never really contemplated keeping the box...

 

I bought 2 Daiwa reels today and the guy apologized for not bringing the boxes and I told him to throw them out because I don't need them. What's the deal with saving the boxes?

I have all of them. they always remind me of the day I brought them home.

In case I sell them, which I usually do eventually. I’ve ran into enough buyers who won’t purchase without the box that I keep them.

Without getting out of my chair I just counted 16 reel boxes. One of them is at least 25 year old.  So yes I’ve been known to keep a few reel boxes.  I can’t explain why.  ?‍♂️

After the warranty goes….. so does the box.

The boxes make for easier sales, esp. on cheaper used reels. People seem to associate box with like-new condition even if the description says otherwise.

I keep all of my boxes as well. Like mentioned above many guys won't buy a reel without the original box. When I was looking for a Gen 1 and a Gen 2 Revo Aurora, I had to have all original reels in their boxes with all documents. These reels are worth a lot more in their original box for the buyer and the seller.

Once youve saved alot of reel boxes you can put them on a wall and have a cool display.

So I am definitely missing out...I have a lot of nice reels(all on rods) and no boxes!

Great place to keep the parts you take off the reel - can return the reel to original if I might choose to sell it, or more likely, offer the parts to someone who wants or needs them.  

 

 

btw, the crossover is right about 100 years - after that, the box is worth more than the reel.

I’ve kept every box from every reel I’ve ever bought…. No idea why though

I too save all my reel boxes, ya know...just in case..?

Daiwa starts printing schematics on the boxes for some reels. Also, I use them for reel storage in off season, so they don't have to collect dust for several months with the level wind worm gear exposed. During resale, it's safe for shipping as well.

I store the reels in the box during the winter. Being able to stack them looks clean and saves space in a drawer.

I keep them too but I don't really know why. I don't generally sell reels and I don't normally put them back in the box once they are out. ?‍♂️

I'm a box tosser.  I've never sold a reel ... don't own any that are fancy enough that someone else would want them ?

Gotta keep those boxes so you can stack them against the wall on a desk to use as your YouTube video background. Though my plan for YouTube video background is to joke about everyone's fishing wall background. My plan is to use a green screen and then add an endless fishing warehouse like it's my background.

I wish I kept all my gun boxes lol. Reels? All my old ones, no. All that I’ve since I got back into fishing are stacked neatly with schematics inside.

Same. They go in the trash and I’ve never had a problem selling reels without them. 

Huge waste of space.

I always save them, then when my stack gets too high and they are in the way, I have thrown some out.  I do keep the schematics and parts in a drawer.   I just looked and I have 8 boxes left.  Time to buy some new reels.
