@MontclairDave it might not be a total waste, they might have some older stock LFS boxes with the extras in it and give you one of them if they have any left.

Good point, thanks!!

Not to be a contrarian but including plastic and schematics is useless. The plastic does nothing to protect the reel in the box and schematics are available online. We are used to reels being packaged that way but it’s just wasteful.

Why would it be on the seller to open manufacturers packaging to inspect or adjust contents?

I bet it didn't leave the manufacturer like that.  I'd wager it was a return.  I'd keep it if it seemed unused and problem-free.

That’s a different story for sure.

I recently orderd 2 of the same reels in 2 different orders, and both came in the same way, just a reel in a box. Both work perfectly and certainly appeared to be brand new

This makes me think they were refurbished or something.  I've never purchased a reel without paperwork in over 40 years of buying reels.  I had two cell phones replaced with refurbished reels that were mint, but came with no paperwork.

Reel feels/looks fine otherwise.

Should I be worried?

Received mine in the mail today it came the same way as yours. I was able to spool it up fast and take a few casts everything seemed normal. One thing I will

say this is my first lews and I wouldn’t pay the full price $100 for this reel it feels kinda cheap and not as smooth as other $100 reels. I’m throwing it on a topwater rod for now

Yup, for $100 I’d get Shimano SLX any day of the week. Or save up another $30 for the XT, which has external dial. But for $63 I figured it’d be good for topwater/mono setup. What mono do you use? I’ve been a Berkeley Trilene XL guy for years. But all of my fluoro is Sunline or Seagar so thinking of trying one of theirs…they both make good stuff. Can’t beat the price of Trilene though… $7 on Amazon for 300 yards!

Berkley big game. 1000 yards for $9. Trilene xl turned to trash

Brand new Lews elite ti I purchased a month  ago had no paper work or anything in the box. Companies are trying to save money where they can and  diagrams / manuals are online ….. just the way it is!

Update: got the return reel from TW with a note on receipt saying that Lew’s reels ship with nothing but a plain box. So I got the same reel back in a plain box. Wish the phone rep told me that instead of agreeing with me that it was “weird” to get it that way, and that I should return it.

Frankly this was the first negative experience I’ve had with TW so I will chalk it up to an honest mistake and move on.

Spooled up the reel with some extra 50 lb PP I had laying around, went to my local pond and caught a nice chunk on a frog. Geez it’s a good deal at $63. Easy to dial in, smooth, thinking of buying another if I can find it at that price and spooling it up with mono for some topwater action.
