Super User LrgmouthShad Posted July 5, 2023 Super User Posted July 5, 2023 I don't think there is a state that I would dislike being in more Quote
Junger Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Which island? I’m leaving big island today after two weeks. I enjoyed it for the most part. But not looking forward to the flight home. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted July 6, 2023 Author Super User Posted July 6, 2023 @Junger all of them I guess? My roommate told me that he was going to hawaii with his girlfriend and I just thought "Dang, I'm sorry" All of the allure of Hawaii does not appeal to this guy. Just felt like I had to get it off my chest Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted July 6, 2023 Super User Posted July 6, 2023 Never been there, no desire to ever go. Had a buddy that went to college there and stayed a few years after...5 or 6 years total. Said it was cool when he was younger but would never move back now. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted July 6, 2023 Super User Posted July 6, 2023 I like Maui. I would go back in a heartbeat if not for ride. I hate airplanes and boats are too slow. Quote
Super User Bird Posted July 6, 2023 Super User Posted July 6, 2023 Wife and I have been all over the tropics, Bahamas, Caribbean and keep going back to the Hawaii islands.......our favorite. Are you being serious? ? 1 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted July 6, 2023 Author Super User Posted July 6, 2023 @Bird yeah man I'm not sure I could explain it to you but I dislike the beach and anything tropical. So Hawaii seems like hell 2 1 Quote

I’ve never been to Hawaii but I would like to go someday for a vacation. It’s expensive though so it might be a while. 1 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted July 6, 2023 Author Super User Posted July 6, 2023 @gimruis humidity wise yeah it’s been muggy. I don’t particularly like Texas either. Just ain’t pretty I like thick woods and flattish land, but with some rolling hills 1 Quote

It’s lush, rolling hills mixed with patches of agriculture and stands of timber. Stunning country to say the least. 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted July 6, 2023 Super User Posted July 6, 2023 @LrgmouthShad tropical/beach is not my scene at all either. Much rather be up in the mountains in Canada than on the tropics. Quote
gunsinger Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 My wife and I recently went to Maui. I truly felt I was in a foreign country. The weather was great and the landscape amazing. But the people (outside of those in the tourism industry), well let’s say they don’t know much about southern hospitality. Regardless, we would go again if the flight wasn’t so long. Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted July 6, 2023 Global Moderator Posted July 6, 2023 I have a customer that is from Hawaii and recently went back. Apparently there is some tension between the locals and the tourists, I think some have had enough of mainlanders trashing their island and clogging up roads with traffic. She sent me an extremely detailed email of all her experiences and several other first hand accounts 1 Quote

The locals are not real friendly to the tourist crowd. Kind of odd too, since tourism is really what keeps them going from an economic stand point. They'd go bankrupt real quick without the tourists. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted July 6, 2023 Global Moderator Posted July 6, 2023 Perhaps they’d rather be bankrupt than covered in traffic and garbage im just guessing, I work for tourism dollars on weekends 1 Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 My wife loves Hawaii, and we have been to the big island, Maui, Kauai, and O'ahu. We always stay at AirBnB or VRBO's, and talk with locals a lot. Rent vehicle and drive all over, as much as we can. We like to explore. Great place to visit and vacation...I would not want to live there. Multitude of reasons... If you can get a native Hawaiian to talk openly about their situation, it is pretty eye opening. Lots of interesting history. 1 Quote
dave Posted July 7, 2023 Posted July 7, 2023 My mother-in-law went every year since 1993 until the year she died in 2017. After my father-in-law stopped going, she started taking her kids and grand kids. My wife has been about six times and my kids have all been three or four times each. I never went... They all loved it every time. I should have gone at least once I guess. Quote
