watch out for Oakley Counterfeits.  

 

i have a spare pair i bought with a gift card at BPS.  they fit nice.  more driving glasses than fishing.  they are blue mirrored and they are fine.  i like more side coverage on fishing glasses tho.

@Darth-Baiter they are real and being sold as a one time offer direct from oakley to this place ive spent alot of money on other fishing products. They are the Valve and Canteen models if it helps.

Perhaps, but then in order to compare the two, you really should have experience with both, correct?

 

If you've only ever driven a Ford, comparing it to a GMC seems like a moot point.  Same with oakley and costa sunglasses.

I didnt say your's are fakes.  I was stating in general that there ARE fakes.

Been wearing Costa for years with no complaints. Also like

Wylie X. You don’t have to get glass lenses with Costa if you don’t like the weight you can go with the polycarbonate lens.

I have both. Costa Rincon glass and Oakley Splitshot shallow water Prizm. Both green lenses amber tint. 

 

Costa's are more stylish, fit much better on my big head, and have a nice clear overall view. The glass really makes a difference there. 
They are however heavy and after I start sweating, constantly fall down my face. Big con of glass lens. Also the overall fear of dropping them. 

 

Oakley's are much lighter on the face. For the fishing I do they have better clarity and really brighten up the muddy waters I fish. They are however a smaller or medium fit and caused pain behind my ears. Solved this by getting rubber ear pads. No longer have that issue anymore. 

 

Personally I prefer the Oakley almost every time. 

 

All depends on which frame you are deciding between though. The Oakley split shots are hard to beat even with glass lenses in my experience.

I just bought a pair of Maui Jim's with the glass lenses and they are lighter and less bulky than my Costas and the glass is super clear. I haven't gotten them on the water yet but so far so good.

 

I've owned many pairs of Oakleys through the years and to me the Costas and my initial impression of Maui Jim are way better. I won't buy anymore Oakleys.

Just to update, I got an email today with a tracking number saying that they have shipped a brand new pair of Costas to replace my damaged pair, free of charge. So for any Costa owners with damaged rubber, file a claim and they will replace them for free.

I really like my Costas. I've fished with a ton of people, and I know some of it is because I'm taller than most, but I truly feel I see more things in the water than anyone wearing anything other than Costas.

I think I may be the odd duck here. I buy PUGS Amber colored polarized sunglasses for less than $10.00. They seem to be pretty scratch resistant, are lightweight, and wrap around to the side of my eyes for good glare/eye protection. I don't notice any particular distortion with them. They are pretty shatter resistant...I have gotten hit right on the lens by a small rock when riding my motorcycle, and although the lens was damaged, it did not break. They offer 100% UVA and UVB protection. With them on, I see things in the water at least as well or better than my fishing buddy who has a pair of Costas. And if I lose them or damage them, I am not out much money to replace them. They are light enough in color to allow low light use, but work great in direct sunlight too. The do not work at night. For that, I have a pair of clear safety glasses. I have not tried Okley sunglasses, but I have tried my buddies Costas and I really didn't see much difference in my ability to see things in the water. I will admit the Costas were a bit more comfortable to wear, but not enough more for me to justify the expense. Just my opinion of course...your results may be different.
