Summer baits for larger fish

Hey y’all,

 

I want to get everyone’s perspective on what techniques do you think can produce larger fish in the dog days of summer? I have posted some thoughts on this and I do have opinions but I am open to different viewpoints on this.

During the summer the bait that catches the largest fish consistently for me is without a doubt a spinnerbait.

Black and Blue 1/2 oz Jig and Craw and Junebug 10-12" ribbon tail worms with 1/4 oz unpegged slip sinker.

 

Literally can't go wrong with these techniques anywhere there are large bass in the summer.

Other than a Rage Bug or Craw fir sight fishing and punching which are my first choice, my main ones are a Magnum Speed Worm, Fat Max ribbon tail and a 10” Anaconda.

Funny, my biggest bass last summer was caught on a purple ZinkerZ.....Zmans version of a Senko.

@Skunkmaster-k @Pat BrownI’ve been known to lean a little more towards red and purple colors for worms in the summer. Both y’all mentioned purple worms ??

 

First and foremost I want the bass to tell me what color they want. I ordered 6 more packs of what worked my last trip ?

 

I may break out the 7” magnum  speed worms again based on what everybody is saying. And buzzbaits. But if I skunk on buzzbaits, it’s y’all’s fault

It would be easy for me to ask what the bait is, but I want to know about the locations. What characterizes the locations you are fishing? You say they are different than rest of the year.

I can’t speak for Catt but the fish that are loafing deep in the summer will move up to creeks and flats in the fall to eat heavily for the winter, then they’ll move deep again for winter, then they’ll move up again for prespawn and spawn, then they’ll move out to secondary points for post spawn, then they’ll be deep again for summer.

I'm with @Cbump but I prefer a Rattling Beetle Spin with a micro willow leaf blade.

Another vote here for big worms.  Recently I’ve been using them on magnum shaky heads rather than Texas or Carolina rigs.

I'll be hitting the water tonight around 11. The chatterbait carries the majority of the load all summer in the dark. I'll switch to a pitchin rig and find some thick stuff as soon as the lights come on. The jig gets honorable mention, and sees action both day and night. All proven big fish catchers year after year.
