I rented a house on Lake Chatuge for the 4 th of July week.  In the middle of the night a storm came up and a big tree cut a house in half just a few doors down the lake.  Trees were down everywhere.  7F4AD046-3B77-439C-8F6E-D6B6592E92EA.jpeg.d46059ea953e9e01f3853ca2007ebd41.jpeg

Oh dear, both our houses are surrounded by giant trees and I worry about that . It’s too doggone expensive to have them cut down

Thought maybe you were exaggerating " cut in half "......you weren't.

Hope no one was injured.

When I was a kid we had a large tree hit the back corner of our ranch home during the night. It sounded like an explosion when it came crashing down. Definitely a scary situation & a real eye opener.

Here I was expecting to see a 10 lber hooked on a whopper plopper at a small public pond after sundown.  Sorry to see the damage and destruction.  Glad you're okay!

Years ago myself and my 2 buddies were on our yearly canoe/camp/fish trip down the saco river in maine. We were sitting around a fire one night, the wind was blowing and my bud says hey I think this tree is gonna come down tonite, and if it does its gonna land on your (my) tent. I said ehh that trees been there for 40 years what's the chance it comes down tonite? Later I went to zonk out ,I heard that tree creaking and thought hmmmm, what if he's right, so I pulled my stakes and dragged my tent and all its contents about 5-6 feet away. At some point during the night I was awakened to a loud crash as that tree landed where my tent had been before I moved it. Phew!

That is scary.  We are surrounded by trees at our house too.  I always wondered how much damage a tree would do.   Yikes, that is bad. Glad you got through it safely.

This thing cut a swath a few miles from my place a couple evenings ago.

Fire department came during the storm but had to cut their way down the streets because other trees had them blocked.

Whoa! What a ^story.^

I was once camped on the Mississippi with kids. In the middle of the night, I awoke utterly. It was the only time in my life I awoke so completely and quickly. I knew that there was danger outside, but I didn't know what it was, so I just listened. In a couple minutes, the wind started to howl, so I ran to the boys' tent and screamed (I had to scream for them to hear me.) to run to my car. We were at a campground and other campers' anchored motorboats were thrown onto the shore, which we saw with the headlights The aluminum dock was crumpled like aluminum foil. Then a huge branch fell on the boys' tent. We should all listen to our spidey tingling.

I live high in the Ozarks and I am often criticized for removing every tree which could cause property damage if it ever fell; 35 trees in all.

I found out that this was a micro burst and not a tornado that brought down all these big old trees.  Amazing power.
