Super User GetFishorDieTryin Posted July 7, 2023 Super User Posted July 7, 2023 Don't fish History doesn't mean, never fish the same place twice, that's just absurd. Its more to do with conditions and variables then waypoints and settings. The idea is simply to avoid allowing past experiences and conditions to take precedent over the ones you're currently facing as no two days are exactly the same. Kind of like playing the cards you're dealt. 3 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 8, 2023 Super User Posted July 8, 2023 Not all lakes and ponds are the same. Fishing history can help identify the differences. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 9, 2023 Super User Posted July 9, 2023 Einstein Doing the same over and over and over again expecting a different result is the definition of insanity could apply to bass angler repeating the same fishing history expecting a different result. Naiveté is expecting the same results. One of my many quirks is the ability to recall in detail nearly every spot I caught a giant bass during my lifetime. Lots of History and yes I revisit those spots whenever the same conditions are present if possible and hope for repeated good results that rarely happen. Yes, I fish history and try to create new history every outing. Bass fishing is trail and error. Tom 3 Quote
The Baron Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 If fishing history was useless, God would not have invented way points. lol In all seriousness, I fish history every time I go out. The trick is to know when to reel up and go find new history. 1 Quote
Fishing_Rod Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 Greetings All, I hope the summer time angling is going well for each of you. Interesting and helpful perspectives shared on this topic. I'm paralleling what Tom recently contributed on this thread. History is my foundation for a good starting point. Those successful areas identify key habitat holding fish. Something not to be ignored. Helpful in building more successful history as you find other similar conditions to catch fish from. This is encouragement to expand beyond just visiting historic success. I use this theme when visiting a new area or new waters. I'll begin my adventure by seeking out areas with elements similar to those of places I have found fish before. Lately with the high temperatures in the SW region catching bass has been relatively easy. Both bass and anglers are seeking relief in shaded areas. The reservoirs here in Southern Arizona have limited shade which tends to concentrate anglers and bass. Have a great time building more "history". I sure appreciate every bass I find "on-line". Be well, Cheers! 2 Quote
Woody B Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 I try to use history to expand my knowledge. There are places where I pretty much always catch bass. I try to determine "what makes these spots special?" then find similar spots. I also use history when I'm not finding/catching bass. If a spot that's produced good for a while stops producing I try to decide "where are these bass at now?". I rarely fish the same spot 2 days in a row. Most weeks I get to fish Saturday and Sunday. Most of the time I fish the same lake. One day I'll go upriver from the landing. The next day I'll go toward the dam. Quote
