Gonefishing65 Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Hey guys i am new to this forum and i found out we have a pinnacle rep on site i thought i would ask a Q about my new Solene reel i just got. Ok First thing i got this reel off E-bay. It was new in the blister pack when i got it. The guy i got it from is not a dealer for Pinnacle so i guess this is where the trouble starts. Got the reel out of the pack put it on a new rod and spooled it up with 50# Spiderwire braid line. took it out in the yard to give it a test run and oh man. This puppy is making a loud noise when you cast it. so i cast it two more times. well then i take it back in the house took it off the rod and i take the left side cover off the reel only to find that one of the two magnet strips is laying in the bottom of the case cover. so i think to myself this is not a prob i can fix it. so i took the magnet plate out of the reel glued the magnet strip back in place. Now i have it back on the rod and i am back in the yard first cast loud noise again. so i keep casting the reel and the noise never gets any better. Well i go in get online and e-mail Pinnacle about it. Today i get a e-mail from a guy named Don from Southeast Expo Rod and Reel Service, he tells me to call there parts line and let the guy there know what i need. so i did, talk to a guy named Martin and he tells me that i can't get just the magnet strip for the reel i have to buy a complete left side cover for the reel. Price 14.50+ shipping Now i am thinking i got a brand new reel and i am going to have to buy a side cover for it. then i got to find out what is making that grinding noise when i cast it i might as well toss this sucker in the trash and start over. If i send it to them to fix they are going to charge me for parts and labor then i have to pay shipping both ways I would be better off just getting a new reel and calling the solene a loss. Now lesion learned. Don't buy a reel on e-bay you could wind up like me and not have a dang thing to show for your money. Pinnacle won't even talk to ya about fixing it even though i got it new in the package unopened. Lesion two you get what ya pay for. Next time i buy a new reel it will come from a walk in store and it want be a cheap line reel. Spend the extra money and buy a good reel from the get go. Now i am done fussing. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. And by the way this seems like a great forum. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I've worked on quite a few Pinnacle reels and my experience with the company has been much different than what you've had. Give the rep here a chance, and think he'll resolve the issue. Having to buy assemblies as opposed to small individual parts is not uncommon. If you bend a push pin on an ABU, you have to buy a spool :'(. Good luck. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 14, 2010 Super User Posted July 14, 2010 It sounds as though you learned a valuable lesson about buying a better quality reel. Quote

And what makes it so bad is all i have ever heard from ppl online is how good the service department at Pinnacle is. Yea i think i will stick with my Other reel company for now on. Unless something changes this reel is going in the junk box. Quote

Gonefishing65 Posted July 17, 2010 Author Posted July 17, 2010 Ok after I glued the magnets back in place and took the reel apart and oiled it and greased it it seems to be working fine. I took it out on the lake today and used it all day long with out any trouble so i guess my glue job is going to hold up. I might by a side cover for it just to have in case i need it. Thanks for all your help Pinnacle > Quote
Pinnacle1 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Gonefishing65: Apologies for the slight delay in responding to your recent posts. I have been at the ICAST fishing tackle trade show in Las Vegas. With all the media interest in our new Tournament Class reels and rods, I have been swamped over the last few days. This is the first real chance I've had to get back online and respond to BR forum questions/comments. I am sorry to learn that you experienced a problem with your Solene baitcaster. Rest assured that what you described is highly unusual for this reel. Normally, these reels are smooth, reliable performers. While it sounds like you may have fixed the problem yourself, we want to make sure the issue has been resolved properly, and that you are completely confident in the performance of your Solene baitcaster. I will check with our customer service department on this, and will get back to you tomorrow (Mon.) via PM on how to proceed. Thank you for your patience. Sincerely, Pinnacle1 Quote
Gonefishing65 Posted July 19, 2010 Author Posted July 19, 2010 Pinnacle1 I got your PM but I am unable to reply to it as it says I have not made 10 post on the forums yet. would have thought by now I would have 10 post. But anyways I am going to send you my address by e-mail Thanks for the reply. George Thomas Quote
Gonefishing65 Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Well looks like the Pinnacle1 guy did the trick. They are sending me a new side cover for the reel at no charge. Now this is the type of service I was hearing from other ppl. If pinnacle takes care of there customers like this all the time they will be a good company to buy from. Thanks again Pinnacle1 Quote
