dolo-dinker Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 I use both spinning rods and casting rods. But want to see what casting setup could work for tubes? I would like to throw them on a Baitcaster and mine are 3/8 ounce I think. I know a spinning would be a bit better but if you had to use a casting what specs would be good for the line, reel and rod. Obi_Wan Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 I had a KastKing Reel that I was having issues with anything much over 1/4 oz. I put it on a TFO ML 7’ rod. I’m going to use it for 1/16 to 1/4 oz tubes, shakey heads, etc…. 8 lb line. I think it will be the ticket. For your set up, I’d say Med/Fast rod, 7.5:1 or so reel, and 8-10 lb line. Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 1, 2023 Super User Posted July 1, 2023 SC Victory VTC 68MXF with Shimano SLX 70 MGL, 10lb FC of choice or 11 Sunline Defier Armilo. Soft plastic tube without weight is less then 1/8 oz, add the tube weight for total. Tom PS, Shimano reel use 3 brakes on & 3 brakes off. 15% off 4th of July sales @TW 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted July 1, 2023 Super User Posted July 1, 2023 I have a BPS Pro Qualifier 7'6" MH F that I like for tubes. It's more of a M+ IMO. 15# XT or YZH. For me it's an open water structure deal during the pre-spawn. Quote
ooga0341 Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 I've only used bait casting gear (ALX Zolo Dragger) for the larger flipping tubes. For the 2.5"-3" tubes I use spinning gear (ALX Soul73 & Kistler KLX 7' M) which is most of the time. Quote
blackrain Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 MBR843c in whatever line you can afford. I use a GLX with 15lb. Tatsu. I've also used a Falcon Cara Finesse Jig and Head Turner rods and highly recommend those as well. 1 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted July 1, 2023 Super User Posted July 1, 2023 If you’re putting a 3/8 oz weight in one you can throw that on any baitcaster you want. That’s plenty of weight for any baitcaster but put to a choice I’d throw that on either a mh or light heavy (both fast) depending on cover. incidentally I was just flipping with a tube the other day on my 7’2” mh/F though I was only using an eighth ounce on a Texas rig. Super User Jrob78 Posted July 1, 2023 Super User Posted July 1, 2023 Yeah a 3/8 oz weighted tube can be fished on whatever casting setup you use for t-rigs. I would be throwing it on a 7'-7'4" MH F rod with 12-16 lb fluorocarbon and 7:1-8:1 casting reel. You really don't need anything special for tubes with this weight. Quote
