I just got back from a cruise. I don’t love cruises, and this isn’t gonna help how I feel about them. The elevators were so crowded.  They put staff at the entrances of the food place getting us to wash our hands.  About 50% complied. Wife and I took the stairs as often as we could.

anyways I got home and the next morning my throat itched.  Oh o.  Covid negative.

that night it was full blown body aches and fevers.  Covid positive.  I’m thrilled I seem to be the only one. My family that I traveled w seems okay.  People! I slept darn near 20 hours yesterday!  Like a house cat!

Im bounced back. But my wife got it one day behind me.   3 years of dodging people, fist bumping, hand washing….and I get it on a vacation.  Hahaha.

I have some new travel stickers to put on my kayak.  I’m ready for my normal life.  :)

oh. My best improv elevator joke.  It was super jammed packed.  A guy up front says we are like a can of sardines.  I said, “yea..what the guy behind me is doing is probably illegal in five states”.   The entire elevator erupted.  Dude behind me actually sprayed me with his drink.

Hope you & your wife come out on the other side of this OK.

I have never been 'on a cruise', at least not that kind.

Either way, there is no amount of $$$ I could be paid

to participate in that deal.  Especially in this day & age.

Hang in there @Darth-Baiter, I think you and the Mrs are gonna get tired of Door Dash, GrubHub, Uber Eats and all the other delivery services at the end of it. Bass Resource and YouTube made things bearable regarding the fishing jones and you can look forward to the bite getting better. Unfortunately, it was my experience to have 10 days of these before one came back negative.

trust me.  the cruise alone is worth not going.

i get fat, lazy..and fat.  it's like a floating casino.  you pay for everything with your room key card.  it has the psychological affect of of "not being money".    at the end of the trip, all those umbrella drinks, cruise hoodies, and tips add up to..."sir, your balance is $2198.32...how was your trip?".  hahhaha...

germsphobes...i think they are everywhere.  i argue the plane ride there was worse.  :D

i only went to be with my in-laws.  i adore my MIL.  it would have hurt her feelings if i sat it out.

A cruise is something people do that don’t bass fish. Maybe getting Covid will keep you from ever having to go on another cruise. Every cloud has a silver lining. Go fishing. Next vacation Catch a bass not a virus. Hope you feel better soon

Sounds like you 2 will be fine.

Been on one cruise about 20 years ago and never again, not for me.

Have family members that go each and every year and rave about it.

The best part ?

Wife hated it as well ?

I hope you guys get better quick.

I agree it’s the worst thing to happen when all you want to do is unwind, have a great time and make memories, now you have to deal with this.

Sorry you feel that way about cruising.
Mrs Mike and I cruise at least twice a year and have for the last 10+ yrs.
Last year we went 3 times and every time is an adventure and never think we won’t go again for any reason.

And Yes, I do Bass fish!!

Be Well

Cruise and bass fishing kinda are mutually exclusive.  Except they step on each others time.

I’m glad there are cruise trips for these that enjoy them.

It used to be that Norovirus was the main concern on cruises. You couldn't pay me to pack myself into a floating toilet in a disease riddled, post-Covid world.

That is still a legitimate concern on cruise ships.

Wife: ‘good thing about Covid was I lost weight..’

Me: ? (don’t say it…don’t say anything…don’t do it!) “yea babe just another half dozen times and you’ll be back in your weight class….”

(well, you just had to do it didn’t you)

I got this from a hotel work meeting.  Good times!

I hear ya, it’s not fun. It’s mostly from a lack of hygiene by others too if you know what I mean.

My father-in-law is 91 years old.  He keeps asking my wife if she will go on a cruise with him.  It's been a dream of his and no one has been willing to go.  He is in fantastic health, totally aware and with it, and even still drives himself from two hours away to visit us.  But still, this is a HARD "NO" for us just because of what @Darth-Baiter has reported.  I don't care if it's COVID, pneumonia, staph, or the common cold.  Can't put a 91yr old man in a petri dish of stupid humans and expect a good result.

Hopefully @Darth-Baiteryou can just take a positive view and see this as an "extended vacation" and catch up on some Seinfeld reruns.

I'm with these guys. It helps I hate people. To get stuck on a floating petri dish with no means of escape, is more of a horror movie than a vacation.

Whew!!

It’s not the end of humanity you guys make it out to be.
If you’re careful and have common sense you can really have a great time, on the boat or any port of call.

In all the years we’ve been cruising we’ve a bad experience only a handful of times but everyone has thier own definition of what that is.

I know I’m outnumbered here so I’ll just move on.
As I said earlier I’m very sorry @Darth-Baiter and family had a terrible experience and of course wish them the best.

Just wanted to give another point of view from having a lot of experience.
