While I like the shape of the Berkley Max Scent Flat Worm - I read mixed reviews if it's worth the price . What similar others have you tried with success in that flat worm / sculpin soft plastics shape for drop shot and had good success with ?

I am a huge fan of max scent baits.  Fish certainly hold on but still drop it, I was catching dinks so curious to see how long they held it, maybe 5 seconds(using the max scent flatworm).  I didn't have a normal plastic to compare but thought that they would have held it longer.  I also like the fact its bio-degradable and good using as a trig because its so soft, hook easily pernitrates.  Fish were odd that day only got bit on popper, flatworm got some dinks, nothing on a jig.

Been using the Diamond Back Worm (4”) from Cash Custom Lures for drop-shotting for over a decade now. Definitely my favorite - incredible color selection.

I typically use goby-style baits, more so than worms.

- Gajo Spirit shads

- Erie Darters

If you want to try something fun, take a Lake Fork Worm, and cut the ribbontail off, leaving only the ribbed body.

Drop shot that for a while, Smallmouth here seem to enjoy it

Gajo Spirit Shads are my jam!

I have enough finesse worms - the Flat Worm , Crush Worm , Dream Shot style worms are next drop shot baits to try ... Sort of half worm / half bait fish . While Zoom regular Flukes get a lot of play with the drop shot - I hate the Fluke belly coming down to a point and trying to get a drop shot hook centered properly.

I’ve eyeballed that one for a while, looks like a great design for a dropshot worm

I dont like the way the max scent baits sit in the water on a DS.  I actually like the flatworm on a small jighead more then a on a DS.  Theyre dense and just kind of hang there, but theres no denying how effective they are.  The hit worm doesnt look great on a SH, its kind of just lays on the bottom, but its gets bit a ton.  It doesnt help that the max scent baits dont last very long.

Gulp minnows are really good DS bait.  Ive consistently caught fish on them during the coldest part of the winter in viz under 6".

I rarely hear anyone mention them, because I think their worms get the most attention.  The Roboworm Alive Shads are one my best producing baits on a DS.  You dont get all the color options of the worms, but they make all the colors you need.

Was a big fan of Gulp minnows for a while, but they’re so darn soft and you’re very lucky to get more than one fish on one. Switched to Maxscent when it came out, and that’s pretty much all I use now. I’d say mostly it’s a 50/50 mix of flatworms and the flat nose minnow, with a wacky hooked General also used occasionally on the drop shot. I’m sure others work great as well, but I like these ones, and have a grocery bag stuffed full of new packages of them so I’m not buying any more for a while ?

I've had a little success with a NetBait Stumpy Crush Worm but I generally do best with just a plain old straight tail Roboworm.

Chompers drop shot 4" worm in #7 (salt & pepper) is my favorite worm. Although not what you were asking for Chris.

The Reins bubbling shaker is by far the best drop shot bait i've ever used. It's a vaguely baitfishy type of profile, 4" works the best for me.

NetBait Crush Worm and Strike King KVD Dream Shot are both great dropshot baits.

The Crush Worms also make for great Ned baits, but they get torn up if you look at them wrong. I pick them up when the fish won’t bite anything else

Z-Man Trick Shotz in The Deal, G-Finesse Swivel Shot size 1 hook, and a 1/8-1/4 oz cylinder weight is the Bizzness for me.

for a baitfish/ goby profile i like the xzone finesse slammer and dropshot minnow.

I'm still a big fan of the MaxScent Flatworm and Flatnose Minnow.   But we picked up some Missing Bomb Shots and they look fantastic - thinking their ribbed body might be the ticket in a particular lake we fish that has fairly stained water.  Haven't tried them yet - been mostly largemouth fishing in the weeds so far, in clearer lakes.

Not what the OP asked but the 4" Yum and Zoom lizards might be my best drop shot bait.

I most often use a strike king dream shot or the net baits crush/junior crush worm. Big bite baits smallie smashers can be killer. Ocasionally I will use a 4 1/2in roboworm too. Going to experiment with some of the xzone baits that seem to be gaining some traction.

Zoom Z-drop is the straight performer in my waters.  it blows away the Berkeley products for me.
