I have an opportunity to buy a Diawa zillion sv tw for $180 brand new.  The thing is is that it is the previous model the 2016 not the 2021 newest model.  I am wondering if getting the older model is still a good buy compared to the newer model. If you have owned both and could  give your opinion even better.  I have been between the newest tatula sv tw and the zillion sv tw but seeing this older model for the price of a new tatula just not sure what direction to go in.  Thanks for any advice.

I have both and many Tatula SV.  I really like the older Zillion SV.  It may not be as refined as the new one, but I like the feel of them.  They have a very connected feel to me.   If you decide you don’t want it, I would love to pick up another one.

What do you mean by less refine? Do you notice a big difference in casting distance between the newer and older model?

The '16 is pretty smooth, but the new Zillion is super smooth, and it's a better distance caster, but it's not as brake-heavy as the '16 at typical settings. Get both and be happy. The '16 is a superior reel compared to either version of the Tatula SV.

The newer JDM version is the way to go. Based on price, braking, casting and all around smoothness, it's pretty much perfect.

How do I go about ordering that version?

They just refined the reel using technology from some of their flagship reels.  It is a great reel.  I just really like the feel of the 2016 and am not bothered by the over braking some don’t like.   The new Zillion does cast farther.

Check stock and prices at Digitaka.com

Asian Portal

JapanTackle

Japan Lure Shop

JDM Tackle Heaven

Then if you love it, pimp it out, and it's still cheaper than buying USM.

Search for Daiwa Gillion on Amazon. They’re currently 223 plus tax. Takes a little longer to get than the other JDM sites, I ordered 2 from there and got them in a couple of weeks . Digitaka has them for 241 no tax and get it in 3 days

Like others have mentioned... Digitaka or Japan Lure Shop would be my choice. I have had great luck with both. JLS is a few bucks more but they send a free gift which is usually a Megabass lure of some kind. Digitaka is cheaper and ships pretty quickly.

There are plenty of second-handed 16 zillion for sale on eBay and similar Japan sites. For a little over $100, you can get one in pretty decent condition. I just saw one with zero scratch, AND a steez 1012 spare spool for only $150. So, IMO $180 for a new 16 zillion is an ok deal, not a great deal.
