Noticed a few of my spinning reels are getting sticky.

When I pause the retrieve, then try to start again...they get stuck / do not want to move freely. Takes a little more effort to get them spinning again.

I'm guessing pull them apart, clean, and re-lubricate.

All are Shimano.

Anyone else have this issue?

I haven’t run across any sticking so far on the 4 I have (2 Nexave/2 Sahara FJs). Had them for a year now +/-. How old are yours? When was the last time they were cleaned/lubricated?

One is 20+ years old (and needs cleaning / lubricate).

Another is just a few years old. Probably need cleaned and lubricate as well.

^ Not a probably - full clean/relube should be done at least every two years, more often if you get out frequently. The guy who's out 3-4+ times a week...probably a full clean mid-season as well as before the season starts.

I'm only out once a week...if that often...and I still do a clean/relube every spring.

old shimano spinning reels from the symmetre and up were prone to binding as the friction ring gaskets started to break down or when they got wet.

what models are these? stradics and symmetres from years past were infamous for this.

they used to call them Shimbindos lol

Have your reels been soaked in water recently? (dropped in water, rained on, etc) My Shimano spinning reels and them only have the exact problems you described any time it rains or my paddle drips water on them too much.
