Super User Mobasser Posted June 22, 2023 Super User Posted June 22, 2023 A hamburger cooked on a grill is a very popular food for summer. I cook them on a charcoal grill, and my favourite is: One slice sweet Vadalia onion, one slice homegrown tomatoes, a light coat of mayonnaise on the bun, and a shot of salt and pepper. What's your favourite way to have a hamburger cooked on the grill? 8 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted June 22, 2023 Super User Posted June 22, 2023 I love my burgers with cheese and just a thick slice of raw onion. Butter the bun then grill that too, then a little mayo. I like the burger to be pretty black on the outside and pink in the middle so I cook it right on the high flame. 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 22, 2023 Super User Posted June 22, 2023 We don't consume very much beef, (bugers included)anymore, but when we do treat ourselves, grilling is our choice cooking method. Used to be an almost raw/rare guy. Lean more towards medium now unless I grind it myself. Something very primal about eating hot, not quite burnt meat. A-Jay 2 Quote

Skunkmaster-k Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 I use a natural gas grill most of the time, but I prefer charcoal. 2 Quote
gunsinger Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 It depends on how much time I have. If I'm in a rush, it's gas grill. If I've got time, I prefer charcoal. As of late, I've taken to putting a black frying pan on the grill and cooking the burgers in that. Why? No grate clean up ?. Yes, I'm lazy. 2 Quote
Super User Bird Posted June 22, 2023 Super User Posted June 22, 2023 I like them on a charcoal grill, flamed and then removed from high heat and smoked with apple wood. Onion, lettuce, tomato, cheese and ketchup. 3 Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted June 22, 2023 Super User Posted June 22, 2023 I’m originally from Omaha Nebraska and I grew up on beef and went to school with the now CEO of Omaha Steaks. My father owned some restaurants and we aged our own beef. As a result, I developed a very, very, refined pallet for beef. I want to taste the meat and nothing else. Drives my wife crazy. No salt, no pepper, absolutely no spices. For a hamburger, I will eat it with lettuce and tomato and I have to have a quality bun. For what I know is cheap meat, onion and mushrooms are my additional toppings. If you ever see me putting ketchup on a burger, you can bet IMHO it’s one step up from roadkill.? 1 1 Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted June 22, 2023 Super User Posted June 22, 2023 When I have the time I will grind some short rib and chuck roast to make the patties and it is the way to go. I like a basic burger with just some cheese but I also like to grill some jalapenos and sweet onions then dice them up and put them on top which I then cover with one slice of pepper jack and another slice of either sharp cheddar or some white american cheese. If you have never tried a fried egg on a burger......you should they are fantastic with a semi-runny yolk. 5 Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted June 22, 2023 Super User Posted June 22, 2023 The runny part is what adds the fat to the burger in place of like mayo for example and adds richness. I have had them fried hard too and they are good as well on a burger. And as far as cooking an egg "properly" there is no wrong way to cook an egg as long as it is how you want to eat it. 6 Quote

That's not what I meant. I have been severely ill from salmonella poisoning in under cooked eggs (like hospital IV style ill). That's a no go for this guy again. If that's how you want your eggs, perfect. You can do it. Lots of people eat undercooked eggs and never get sick. Mine get fully cooked every time now. Sometimes it takes a negative experience with something to change one's mind. 2 Quote
