I know many of us fish alone. I do much of the time. But, I also fish with a friend, whenever he can go.                        My friend Mike is seven years older than I am. He'll turn 73 soon. At one time, Mike had a reputation as one of the best fisherman in my area. Myself, and others looked up to him, and respected his skills as a fisherman. He quit fishing for several years, and I kind of helped him get back into it.            Mike is a Vietnam veteran, and still walks with a limp from a leg wound from the war. He's slow moving, and I have to be patient with him, especially when we're getting into my canoe. He likes to start at first light, and his favourite way to fish is to set up on a deeper spot, and slowly work soft plastics or a jig.                                                      He's very observant about how the fish are striking. He usually always catches more fish than I do, and I like seeing him catch the bass. When he's fishing, he's on it, and very serious.           He's always quick to lend a hand in any way possible. He gives away baits to kids we see at the lake, and gives them some instructions on the best way to fish them.           Getting him back into fishing has given him a positive outlet, something to look forward to, and in his own way, help other guys.             I consider him a very good partner, and I wish there were more guys like him.                                                   Do you have a good fishing partner? What's your partner like?

My fishing partner is 10 years old and he's half me.  It's the best.  I am so lucky to be his dad.  I know there will come a time in my life when memories of these golden days will keep me going and not much else will.

My fishing partner about half the time is my 4-legged friend.  She is always excited to go.  She is very calm once we get out there, and quite often just sleeps the majority of the time.  I cannot bring her with all the time though, as she gets over heated quickly.

My Father fishes with me sometimes too.  He is 72 now, turning 73 in July.  He is in good shape for someone that is 72.  I think he likes going in my boat because he doesn't have to do much other than sit/stand there and fish.  He doesn't run the motor, bow mount, graphs, and he doesn't have to drive his truck either.  Most of the time I basically pick him up at his house, we fish for hours, and I drop him back off when we're done.

I also have a few close friends who will occasionally go with.  Sometimes I can't get anyone to go with so I just go solo (if I cannot take the dog).  I don't mind fishing solo sometimes.

Oddly enough, my fishing partner of over 40 years is Mike also, he's 67.

Sadly though he's been hospitalized and received triple bypass heart surgery this past Monday.

Hopefully he'll be back in the boat by fall.PXL_20220519_142927319.thumb.jpg.1154312de0a809ba2a25c3385229519a.jpg

I mainly fish with my dad and my dog. Sometimes I will take someone else. They are generally a once or twice a year trip though. I don’t really fish with anyone experienced. Trial and error is what I go on. Mainly lots of error. I tend to not talk to everyone around here who fishes either. I used to be like most people. I knew who caught what and where. Now, it’s just a me thing. Sometimes it would be nice to have an experienced partner to learn off of. That’s what I have you all here for.

Over the years, I’ve had a couple of good fishing friends.  Started when we moved into our house 30 years ago and a neighbor who loved to fish got me back into it because I had given it up after my grandfather passed.  It was too painful.  He eventually moved to Florida and I started guiding.  I had a tournament partner that was also a guide and we fished a lot.  When work moved me to Florida, I hooked up with a guy and we fished tournaments together but by all accounts, my best friend and fishing partner over the years has been Carlos Hathcock (son of the famous sniper White Feather of the same name and an accomplished shooter himself).  We travel together and fish most every weekend when he is not out of the country.  He will be retired in a few years and I’m sure that will increase.  There’s no way to tell exactly how many fish we have caught together.

I've got a good buddy that I fish with, Usually it is saltwater offshore fishing in the Gulf of Mexico a few times a year, usually for a couple of days when we make the trip down to the coast. We've been fishing together for almost 40 years. It's hard to find someone that you can tolerate and can tolerate you for 10-12 hours on the water.

I usually fish alone but, as often as he is able, I take my friend Dan.  Dan is a few years older than me and a Vietnam vet.  He served over 30 years and has severe PTSD and other health issues.  His absolute favorite thing to do is fish but his health no longer supports him fishing alone.  As a vet myself, I consider it a privilege to spend time on the water with him.

For many years my wife was a regular back when every trip happened in the Old Town Canoe.

She was usually up for whatever came our way.

We had some killer days & 1 very special night on the water together.

Sadly her health has declined to a point now where we really have to pick our spots.

Still the best though.

I only get to share the water with Big Fish Jeff one, maybe two times a year.

But for the last 10 years or so, most everyone of those trips, has been memorable.

She's awesome. Nobody on the planet I'd rather fish with.

Had a brother and neighbor I fished with, one or the other. Neighbor has been laid up for about 10 years now so he’s out, and I lost my brother a couple years ago. After going only by myself I now have 2 grandsons that like to go, one 8 and the other 14. Unfortunately their parents won’t let them skip school so I have to wait for weekends or summer, which for fishing, starts next week.

I usually fish alone.  My Grandsons (17 and 19) go every now and then but they're usually busy with baseball or teenage girls.   A co worker goes with me a couple times a year.  He's got 2 young daughters.   He's a really good Dad....does a lot of stuff with them so he doesn't get to fish often.  Mrs B occasionally goes with me.  I try to put her on some decent bass when she does go.

I spent an enjoyable Fathers day fishing with my father and my son. Dads days are numbered.

While I truly miss tournament fishing with my son, my grandson is my favorite fishing partner. Everything is new to him. Eric is going to be 6. I just taught him how to cast a spinning reel as opposed to a closed face reel last time we were out. He's still in "live bait" mentality but that will pass eventuality.

No longer have a long time fishing partner, all gone including my son. Trying to backseat occasionally and develop a partner, still enjoy time on the water.

My long time partner found a new partner when I started spending my winters in FL, which is great.  We fish several times a year though.  He's several years younger, 75, than me and front seats me but I still enjoy his company.  95% of the time I fish alone.

You all have had some great partners.  I have some buddies I fish with frequently, but I really fish alone most often.  I actually like it though.   I fish during the week while they are working.  Lakes are mostly empty and quiet.  They ask to fish on the weekends, but it is just not the same as weekdays and I hate crowds when fishing.
My favorite is fishing with my wife and two daughters.   I often play guide instead of fishing, but nothing is better than watching their excitement and how proud they are.   I always hope their pictures encourage their friends to get outdoors and enjoy.

My fishing partner is my life partner, my wife of 28+ years.

She has out-fished me on more than one occasion, backs the trailer down better than most of my male friends and is the love of my life and my soulmate.
She prefers a bait caster to a spinning reel and fishing soft plastics is her specifically.

These days I fish by myself, but back before my dad passed we never missed a chance to get out and wet a line.  I've gone fishing with some friends and co-workers, but they just didn't seem motivated to get out after the fish.  Seems like they would always just like to sit back and relax or enjoy the boat ride to the fishing spot.

50-75% of my fishing is done alone...which I kinda prefer honestly. I do have several fishing buddies I go with. Chase is a good buddy and a solid bass fishing partner but he has a flock of kids so we only fish together a few times a year. Todd is also a good buddy, he's not a bass guy but we do target panfish and Wall eyes together from Fall thru winter. Brian's my primary bass partner but he is flaky to say the least.

Back when I had the runabout I'd go fishing with a friend on occasion...but he moved. Then the runabout was sold and I was without a boat for 15 years. The canoe was basically a one-person fishing craft, and Bass Trek is also set up for basically one person, though two could fish out of it in a pinch.

Other than that, the only time I've fished with someone else in the last 40 years was the guided trip two weeks ago.

I'm a hermit type...enjoy being by myself.
