Super User J Francho Posted June 27, 2023 Super User Posted June 27, 2023 I like getting out. Best five over 15 is decent. I've had a day where I caught just two but they were both over 6 each and I was only there for a few hours, so that was a good day. I've had 100+ smallie days, though none over 4. That's a good time. 2 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted June 27, 2023 Super User Posted June 27, 2023 On the lakes I typically fish, 3 over 2lbs. is a better day than most. I'd even call it a good day if I can catch just one. Though, I rarely get skunked these days, being able to catch one an hour is a pretty high rate that I don't often achieve. And that's all it would take for it to be a great day. I'd feel pretty inadequate, judging by a lot of the posts here, but pretty much everyone I talk to at the docks tells a pretty similar story. I'll often talk to guys who caught more than me, but even then, it's rare enough to hear of someone catching more than six or a bass over 5lbs that if someone tells me they did that, I tend to be pretty suspicious. 1 Quote
IcatchDinks Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 It's all relative. If I catch even one fish, I go home happy. Some days I'll be out for hours getting skunked and then land one decent bass, I'll go home satisfied. (average size in our area is about 14 inches so decent in my book is anything bigger than that.) But it's all variable. Yesterday I had a really good day. But that was because it rained. A lot. Water levels are finally back up, the weather isn't scorching hot anymore, and I caught three fish in 2 hours. Nothing big, not a lot of fish. But I went home feeling like I had a great evening out. Of course, the more and bigger the fish, the better. I'd say my best day was fishing a new lake, and I only casted about 4 or 5 times. I caught a pike for dinner, the biggest rock bass I've ever seen, a big fat bluegill (also dinner), and a new PB smallie. Four fish on four or five casts, delicious dinner, and a new PB. 19 minutes ago, Bankc said: On the lakes I typically fish, 3 over 2lbs. is a better day than most. Super User geo g Posted June 27, 2023 Super User Posted June 27, 2023 In south Florida a good half day in the boat is over 20 fish with one or two in the 4 to 5 pound range. We have had past conditions during low water conditions, where 100 bass were a regular occurrence. The last few months with high water and super hot conditions this has been a struggle. The big old girls are so far back in the thick junk, where the boat can't go. Airboats are what are needed and miles back in isolate pockets. It has been a tough, these conditions really stink, the amazing thing is someone always manages to figure something out! 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 27, 2023 Global Moderator Posted June 27, 2023 I like bigger fish. I've had 100 fish days where none broke 3lbs, I get bored after a while catching dinks. I've had grinder days where each bite seems like it's 4+ pounds but I only get 5-7 bites, I like those days and feel much happier at the end of days like that. If I get out with my family and put them on a bunch of fish, I don't really care how big they are though, as long as they're enjoying themselves. 3 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted June 27, 2023 Super User Posted June 27, 2023 Today was a great day - caught 3 LMBs and 3 Pumpkinseeds...while the bass might have been dinks, I was on the water enjoying the nice weather...AND I CAUGHT SOMETHING That makes it a great day. 2 Quote

SC53 Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 A good day, where we get home safe and hopefully catch a few bass. If we each ( my wife and I) catch our “ limit”, being 5 a piece, that’s a great day in our book. Quote
cheezyridr Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 it's a real good day if: 1) i caught at least 1 2) didn't hook myself 3) didn't snag my favorite lure 4) didn't get stung by a wasp, or bit by a snake 5) no ticks 3 Quote

Friggs Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Being a disabled bank fisherman the most I have caught in a day is 5. I have caught that many 3 times. Including yesterday. Yesterday was the best because they weren't any dinks in the bunch. For me catching a fish is enough to make it a good day. There are to many days I get skunked. So any fish makes it better. 5 Quote
steve carpenter Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Good day is 6 lbs plus. I would rather catch one larger fish than many smaller ones 1 Quote
Big Hands Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 For me: Many times I know it was a good day because I am feeling it as I am on my way home. On some days, I don't realize that it was good (or bad) and why until sometime later as I reflect on the experience. I don't have a set criteria. I have had days where I caught plenty of fish, or a big fish that I don't look back on fondly because of something I was feeling inside. It's not always about fishing and catching the fish that makes a day good or not so good. 1 Quote
Blue Raider Bob Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 A good day for me is just being on the water when boat traffic is light. Catching a few is a bonus. 1 Quote
