Super User LrgmouthShad Posted June 19, 2023 Super User Posted June 19, 2023 Hey y’all, Ive been throwing a Texas rig a lot. Mostly because I now fish a mixture of hydrilla and timber, and a Texas rig is good to fish through both, and it also allows me to use one of my summertime mainstays, the ribbontail worm. But Catt and Cbump and probably a couple others I’m forgetting have preached the importance of paying attention to rate of fall. Combine that with my desire to have a little heavier gauge hooks and weights in thick grass, and my terminal tackle has exploded. Here’s a look inside two boxes that I keep in the little bottom compartment of my Hobie. 8 Quote
LootyDjibouti Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 I've managed to keep all my terminal thus far in one 3600-size box in the old town but I'm really starting to push it now, combining different hooks into one compartment telling myself they're kinda the same (they aren't) 3 2 Quote

Super User Catt Posted June 20, 2023 Super User Posted June 20, 2023 All of mine is in two Plano Pro Latch Utility 3500 Boxes. Weights in one, hooks in the other. 1 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted June 20, 2023 Author Super User Posted June 20, 2023 So I think @Catt when I went out Saturday and got three… I think they wanted a 1/2oz over the 3/16oz. I actually went with two rods with t-rigs. One with 3/16 and lighter wire gammy hook, the other 1/2oz super line gammy hook. All three fish were on the 1/2oz. I did fish the 1/2oz somewhat more, but at the very least, I don’t think the big weight hurt me any. It was my first trip where a main goal was trying to pay attention to whether the bass wanted a fast or slow fall 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 20, 2023 Super User Posted June 20, 2023 I keep all my terminal tackle in 2 boxes Plano Guide series 4600, 1 for weights and 1 for hooks. The 4600 is a 2 tier box so smaller sizes in the top. Owner 4107 is my current worm hook for standard T -rigs w/ Bullet weights. Tom 2 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted June 20, 2023 Super User Posted June 20, 2023 About 12 years ago, I found it necessary to split my largemouth terminal items and smallmouth terminal items. The number of jig heads I use for smallmouth pushed me to do this. I’m sure my largemouth box has more money per square inch of space that any box I have. It’s insane. But snap your fingers and it’s right there. 1 Quote

But snap your fingers and it’s right there. I do have other stuff scattered through my other boxes. So maybe this is just the “summertime edition” with a heavy focus on Texas rigs. If I was still in MO, where I’d be fishing for both smallies and largies regularly, it’d look way different. There are smallmouth near me, and big ones, but I do not care to fish for them here Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted June 20, 2023 Super User Posted June 20, 2023 Terminal tackle never gets best in show, but terminal tackle is the workhorse of the tackle box. Always doing the dirty work. Terminal tackle is the most important part of the system when it comes to getting fish to the boat. Sometimes when I’m going crazy buying baits, I have to remember to give the terminal box some love. I just finally moved all my bullet weights to their own box. My terminal box was getting insanely heavy. 4 Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted June 20, 2023 Super User Posted June 20, 2023 I am so glad I switched to slider heads years ago. Carry the light wire and heavy wires in a few different sizes and life is good. I have always wanted to go back and try the standard texas rig to see if it is better, but haven't found a need to. Super User TOXIC Posted June 20, 2023 Super User Posted June 20, 2023 I am a terminal junky. I have had to split all of my terminal tackle by technique. Dropshot, ball heads/football heads, weights, hooks, and 1 box of a mix for taking in others boats. Hooks alone, I probably have 15 different sizes and types from dropshot #1’s to weighted 6.0. EWG’s from 3.0-6.0, and on and on…. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted June 20, 2023 Super User Posted June 20, 2023 I have everything in one 3600 size box. Hooks, weights, jig heads, parasite clips, barrel swivels, bobber stops... Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted June 20, 2023 Super User Posted June 20, 2023 Everything I have fits in a 3700. Weights, hooks, swivels, Neds, Shakey. The boxes are two sizes, the large for 4/0 and 5/0 hooks, and are not air/water-tight, so the silica packs can dry things in them too. Larger weights, like my S.O. 1oz and 1.5oz don't fit in the boxes, so they get a compartment each. 3 Quote

I throw all my tungsten into one little compartment because they all have the weight ID on them, that's smart though having two boxes are they 3700 size? Quote
