GoneFishingLTN Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 I don’t understand when to use a shakey head over a finesse jig. Or a drop shot over a shakey head. How about a wacky rig senko? (The senko sorta makes sense to me because I can throw it around standing timber) Quote
PaulVE64 Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 Time on the water (or youtube videos) will teach you when to throw what. But that probably doesnt help. My best advice would be to pick a technique and fish it anywhere you think has fish. Stick with it until your sick of it and then do more. Or go fishing with someone who does know and ask them. Quote
Dye99 Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 I personally use and try to learn different technics mainly for two different reasons. 1. To be able to switch up when what Im using isn't working. There is also the aspect of understanding where the fish are in the water column and using what technic puts my lure or bait where it needs to be for the amount of time that is consistent with water temps, time of year, and bait fish Im trying to imitate to get strikes. 2. The other reason is to spend money and use up my free time looking at said bait on tackle warehouse at 2 am when I should be sleeping. 1 2 Quote
padon Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 to me you have to try each technique in different cover and situations to see what you like. for me i like a shakey head on rock. i like a texas rig in grass or wood. wacky senko i use around all those but mostly in shallow water. drop shot too but i want to have a specific target with it. rockpile on the edge of a grass bed or brush pile for example. Alex from GA Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Personally I use a T/R finesse worm for 80% of my fishing and usually out catch my buddies. The only shakey heads are the ones I've found and I drop shot with a T/R. 1 Quote

I dont know when to use a ned rig over a tube so I'll pick one and see what happens. 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted June 20, 2023 Super User Posted June 20, 2023 When guiding, I usually tell my new clients that although I am pretty well versed in all things finesse, there will be a technique that will feel the most comfortable to you. Find it and then sprinkle in the other techniques to find when and where they work best. 3 Quote
