Super User BrianMDTX Posted June 17, 2023 Super User Posted June 17, 2023 Unless you live in the sticks and there is no other option, why do people deliberately order from Dominos, Little Caesars, Pizza Hut, Papa John’s, etc. when there are so many better options? Is it price? It cannot be taste. At least I hope not! ? 1 2 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted June 17, 2023 Super User Posted June 17, 2023 We use to have a Papa Murphy's in town - then they closed. Also had a mom&pop Pizzaria - and they closed. All we got left in the 'delivery area' is Dominos or Carbone's - and Carbone's CS sucks. Actually - Dominos' Pasta Bowls aren't too bad...and the chicken wings are fairly decent too. 1 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 It depends what mood I am I’m. You can also find the chains have deals and can be a cheaper meal than a local pizza shop. Is their pizza as good as a local shop? Most times no. If I want stuffed crust my opinions are chains. I do not care for my pizza shop in the town I live. I will eat it. It’s not terrible just not what I prefer. I usually make the 30 minute drive to a different “local” shop. 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted June 17, 2023 Super User Posted June 17, 2023 Sometimes I want cheap pizza that’ll be here in like 30 minutes. Domino’s pizza has gotten a lot better over the years, and I actually love their sandwiches. Same reason I’ll sometimes grab a Wendy’s burger when I don’t feel like spending $37 and waiting 25 minutes at Five Guys. Now I’m hungry. 2 Quote
padlin Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 The only times I’d do chain pizza was when I was out of town on business. Sometimes the best choice at 9pm is the chain place next door to the hotel. Used to be most area pizza shops were Greek or Italian owned, many have changed hands and quality has suffered badly. Online reviews should have a shelf life. Quote
PourMyOwn Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 People like the repeatability of Domino's, Little Caesars, etc. Most of them just aren't adventurous eaters and see no need to change. I know this because I am related to a bunch of these folks. I make my own pizza dough, and keep a bunch of dough balls in the fridge or freezer. I wouldn't trade my sourdough crust for any I've had...and it's significantly cheaper than take out. 1 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted June 17, 2023 Super User Posted June 17, 2023 Because McDonald’s does not sell pizza. ? 5 Quote
813basstard Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 Some nights it’s high end whiskey in real glasses and sometimes it’s a Coors Light kinda night 3 1 Quote
ike8120 Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 It is cheaper then the mom and pops pizzerias, IMO it is like eating rubber. Quote
newriverfisherman1953 Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 I eat it because I like it, chain or no chain. Why can’t a chain pizza taste good?? Mom and Pop doesn’t automatically make it good. 5 Quote
Super User gim Posted June 17, 2023 Super User Posted June 17, 2023 I agree that a specialty pizza shop is better for ingredients, quality, and taste. I don’t always have the time to go there or order them though when there is a hot n ready little Cesar’s 10 minutes up the road. Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 I like the stuffed crust supreme from pizza hut. It tastes good. Quote

I like their pizza to as long as it's hot and fresh. I'm one of those that lives "out in the sticks". Our closet Domino's is over 40 miles away. We have two smaller chain pizza joints in town, Johnny's and Mazzio's. They both suck. 1 1 Quote
VolFan Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 Consistency and price mostly. If the small pizza shop you’re patronizing isn’t a place you’ve had before it can be a huge roll of the dice. Also, kids. And kids’ birthday parties. Quote
Woody B Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 Most Friday nights Mrs B and myself have "real" Pizza at a real Pizza restaurant(Greek owned). It's great. However I love pizza. For me bad pizza is still pretty good. 1 Quote
treble hook Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 It’s about price and convenience. We have a couple of local spots that are really good, but I still like a Pizza Hut thin crust from time to time and a Mellow Mushroom. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted June 17, 2023 Super User Posted June 17, 2023 Funny, I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and I remember when Godfathers pizza was started by a local guy before he turned it into a national franchise. There is a local pizza shop in a stand alone building on the corner of a shopping center called La Casa that uses strong Romano cheese and I laugh every time I think of it because my mother would have a fit when I walked in with it. I’m 65 and that shop is still there. I also miss being able to go get a Runza when I want. 1 Quote

I used to "escape" from School to have Godfathers pizza for lunch. There was also a Godfathers near the landing I used to use at Lake Norman. Are there any left? I haven't seen one in years. Quote

Just for fun, I googled it and it appears there are still a lot of franchisees in operation. I can remember when I was working and traveling a lot, I would see them in airports. We loved the pizza but used to make fun of the hamburger because it looked like rat turds.? Quote
Kirtley Howe Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 Yes Godfathers is still around. For a while they had a deal with Hess so a lot of them were located in Hess gas stations. That deal ended about 12 years ago. Hess has since sold all there gas stations to the Speedway corporation. Godfathers has closed a number of stores in recent years, and plans to close some more "under preforming" stores. But they still have a bunch of stores out there. Quote

Ya - but none in decent range of me anymore. Use to have one less than 20 minutes away...now the closest is 40 minutes - in good traffic, which is a rarity on the roads between me an them. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 17, 2023 Super User Posted June 17, 2023 I didn'g even know chain pizza existed until i moved to Virginia for college. Chain pizza sucks and i will take a bad mom & pop pizza joint over the best chain place any day of the week. I will say that much like sometimes I want that crappy blue box mac & cheese for nostalgia reasons, I will want some Pizza Hut since it reminds me of being a kid and that was a major treat and they had the all you could eat buffet. IMHO, other than being everywhere and being relatively inexpensive their pizzas lack flavor. If I’m getting a pizza from a restaurant chain, it’ll be Round Table or Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria. Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted June 17, 2023 Super User Posted June 17, 2023 Where I grew up there was a place called Angelos . I have never had anything come close. Got spoiled at early age Quote
