Anyone else have this issue? I just got the tournament MP and the fonts are COMPETELY gone and my Mach 2 is almost gone....both a few weeks old at the most....

Posted

Using any sunscreen or insect repellent? I could see insect repellent easily removing the painted on font.  I'm assuming that it is the "palming" or brake side of the reel.  Reel Magic, WD40 or other lubricants might have the same effect.

Arrg, sun screen, but not on my hands.......

Crazy, has anyone spoke to Lews about this?

Yeah its common with these oem reels.  Not sure why they do it but they paint the reel branding or brake adjustments on some reels after the reel has already been painted and clear coated so they rub right off.  I have reel doing this to me right now.

I just wrote to them about it. Wow, $150 reel and the paint just wears off so easily? I really can't believe it. Less than 2 weeks old.

Sure. Printing wears easily on both casting and spinning with use. Got a bunch like that.

Yeah its something I am used to.  It doesn't effect the underlying paint since it is just a stenciled paint finish over the clear.  Think of it like a temporary tattoo for your reels.  Why it happens I would guess the reels are built by doyo Korea in bulk and when it comes time to turn them into lew's reels then get the lew's jargon sprayed on over the clear of the reel.

The screen printing's wore off the dial on every Lew's reel I own. I used to worry about it, but I realized that I choose a brake setting by feel about as reliably as I do by looking at the numbers – which is to say poorly – so it don't really matter to me anymore whether they're there or not.

I got you, I am almost to the point of not using it at all, but not quite there yet....just nice to have it there when you are learning. I have only used a baitcaster for a little while throughout my life. I actually got back into fishing recently to finally bit the bullet and fully committed to using them till I got it mastered.

I can understand the older ones, ones you have had for years.....but these are pretty much new, the mach2, I am not too mad at, its a $150 combo, but the MP, geez, $150 reel and my dobyns cost me $120. I was kinda hoping it would be a little more refined for the much higher price tag.

Yeah, I can dig that. I think the dial lettering wore off both my MPs pretty quick. For what it's worth, the magnetic brake on those is basically an on-off switch. In my experience, anyway. Those reels will very quickly teach you how important a digit your thumb is, in case you had any doubts.

Yea, I learned that.....I got a newer reel to learn on, actually what I bought the Mach2 for. I am getting it....I am still throwing a backlash or 2 when I try overhand casts, but I am getting really good at getting those backlashes OUT.....I saw a video where the guy picks the line, reels in a few turns over the lashes and push your thumb firmly and it comes out every single time. That was a god send for me. It let me have at it without fear of having to cut my line.

Something it took me a while to pick up on, the dial has one dot on one end of the dial and a series of embossed dots on the other end of the dial: the series of dots  graphically represents the "more" braking direction on the dial so you can actually do without the numbers once they're gone ?

I noticed this after I scratched a "-" and "+" on the dial ?‍♂️

If you used your hands to apply it someplace - even wiping it off on a towel won't remove all of it...there'll still be a trace amount - and that's all it takes.

Nope! Quite as brand new ?

I don't put anything on my hands when fishing or hunting.

I've never once paid attention to a number and once the magnet is dialed, only focused on the spool tensioner from there depending on the weight of bait.

My boat is full of Lew's and never looked.

But I do understand you're frustration on a very new reel.

I've been telling people that for over 30 years
