Drew03cmc Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 Hey all, I just got a screaming deal on a Steez LTD SV TN edition 6.3:1 and am wanting a rod that'll throw bladed jigs, spinnerbaits and maybe finesse jigs well. I will be using 14# Seaguar R18 on this reel. Is there anything similar to a Diablo Spec R in the $200 range? I felt an Orochi XX Spec R tonight and it felt really nice. Just wondering if I could find anything similar, maybe a Falcon 6'10" MH finesse jig rod (the old Eakins taper) or anything similar. Has anyone used the Rebellion from Daiwa? Quote
PBBrandon Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 I have the 7’3” HF Rebellion and it is a fantastic rod. You’d probably want a MH though. The Rebellion rods are very high quality and underrated. I like them better than the Tatula Elite rods. If you really like the Spec R, you could get it in the Levante for a little over your budget too Quote

I'm gonna run to a local shop tomorrow morning and see what they have. Quote
Cbump Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 I have the orochi spec R, a Rebellion 7’3” MH, and a bunch of falcons. I’d get a Falcon expert head Turner hands down. 1 Quote

Super User casts_by_fly Posted June 12, 2023 Super User Posted June 12, 2023 I have both the finesse jig and the head turner in the current expert series. Both are great. Which one for you depends on the weight of lure. For me, 3/8 goes on the finesse jig and 1/2 goes head turner. 1 Quote

My expert head turner has a JDM met on it (6.3 oz reel) total weight is just over 10 ounces. The rod is 4.1-4.2. My Finesse jig has an Abu MGX (4.something ounce reel) and comes in around 8-8.5 oz total (I can't remember specifics). Both rods have pretty light (physical weight) tips to them and at 6'10" there is no extra length for swing weight. Both balance great with reels from the MGX at 4.3 or so up to a Revo SX at nearly 8 oz. 1 1 Quote

Even going budget you can keep the weight down Spinner/chatter rig - Supreme XT on a Fury 705CB - 10.9oz total Finesse jig rig - Tatula 100 on a Mojo 6'8" M/F - 10.8oz total For someone who grew up using a rig that weighed in over 1# - these are lightweights.
