A section of Interstate 95 has collapsed from an explosion outside of Philadelphia. The repair/replacement could take months. I am not very familiar with this section of road, but I95 is arguably the single most important road along the entire east coast. A major closure will be very problematic and cause a logistical nightmare not only for travel, but shipment of goods in the area.

Probably worse than the mess we had when the I35 bridge collapsed.

Levittown PA take 95 south to philly and get off at Broad street. Catch a football or baseball game at Veterans stadium. Great memories, tough crowd back in the 80s.

I would like to go back and visit and bring the wife to show her the historical sites in the city of Philadelphia but i just dont want to take a chance with gettin my car broken into and the shootings.

You’ll be fine, my brother has lived right where you described for 20+ years. He takes his daughter to like 30-40 Phillies games a year, they’ve not once been shot in all that time

That's going to be a lot of pain for local residents in particular.  Coming up 95 you can choose east or west if you're going up to NYC area.  East is the NJ turnpike which isn't I95 there I don't think but turns back into it.  The west choice is around the PA side of the river and swings you around Philly and Trenton.  Trucks and long distance travelers will do the NJTP route and not be impacted, but people on the PA side are going to get hurt.  The local lanes through those areas are going to be congested as anything for a while.  And the NJTP traffic is going to get worse (to be fair it isn't that bad down there).  We will be going down that route in 6 weeks when we head to OBX so we'll see if things have settled into a pattern then.

My daughter hauls horses from up that way a bunch and she hates it. She also picks up a lot of super high dollar horses shipped in from around the world at the USDA quarantine facility.  Couple,of times, her gps has diverted her through downtown NYC with the rig I attached.  I imaging interstate 81 is going to be very busy even more now.

Where does she go to/from?  There are tons of horse facilities around here (I'm 30 miles west of NYC).  I just looked up the USDA facility and had no idea it was there.  I used to hunt at Stewart State forest all the time when we lived here the first go round.

I-95 goes right up the jersey side of the Hudson river, right through the meadowlands until you hit the George washington bridge.  Then you cross the river into NYC at the Bronx before it swings you across the top of long island sound and into Connecticut.  The whole area from where I95 hits the ocean south of Newark Airport all the way to Connecticut can be awful. The strip through the Bronx goes to a standstill most days and is a section of road I avoid pretty much at all costs.  There are alternatives depending where you're going (and what time of day) that are much better for traffic purposes.

i do this for a living.  i have fixed a bridge that burned down.

in CA, this would be a fast repair.  we have some heavy hitter contractors, that we call on.  one in particular saw the news, called his steel supplier and ordered the steel on his own.  he got the most valuable jump on his competitors.  and naturally he got the job, when he showed up and said, "i already ordered the beams".

I 95 sucks from one end to the other

From Portland Maine points north it's really beautiful.  Otherwise it is a human conveyor belt, no thanks.

I commuted daily on I-95 from 1982 to 2019 to Baltimore, DC and/or Philly. Now I commute daily on I-45. Hard to pick the worst lol.

I used to ride my bike on 95 as a kid when they were building 95 to the Ft. McHenry Tunnel. Would NOT suggest that now! ?

Rode my motorcycle (Trike) thru there about 4 years ago. It was one of the most harrowing experiences I have ever had. Followed closely by being on the Beltway around DC during rush hour.

I can understand why, not too many people go that far north- it's not the Appalachians, but it's beautiful country.

I worked at a Kenworth truck dealership in Concord New Hampshire back in the 80"s. Many truck drivers from Maine in the logging industry would come down to us and spend a high amount of money on plush air ride seats and chrome accessories. They had money to burn then and were great people to shoot the bs with. They were 100% hillbillies in a good way.

She goes from here in Virginia (Middleburg where her farm is) to the USDA facility and then it could be anywhere in the country.  Her last pickup was 7 Icelandic horses that went to Virginia and Kentucky.  Because of the traffic and the wear and tear on her equipment, she is trying to stay in the Delmarva area more.  She has also taken on a boarding business which keeps her more on the farm. Gotta give her credit, she’s 25 and scratching a good living out of the equestrian industry.

Hopefully, that means some people will choose not to clog my route for a while...especially this weekend. I am probably 150 miles from that spot, but I am hopeful.  Holiday Mondays are just stupid on 95....unfortunately, I have few options, other than leaving at dark-thirty or taking a vacation day on Tuesdays.  There is exactly one viable alternate, and it is 50-60 miles longer and often crowded, as well.

i don't understand why it will take months to repair.  florida rebuilt an entire bridge in 4 days last year after a hurricane.
