optimator Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 First off, sorry for so many of these posts this year. I'm upgrading a few rods and appreciate the knowledge and experience here... I've really got into jig fishing this year. I bought a TFO Tactical Elite 736 and it just doesn't do it for me. Compared to the rest of my rods it's a pretty dead stick. I'm looking to throw up to 3/4oz plus a trailer so probably around 1oz total. Something that would go down to 3/8 plus a trailer would be a bonus. It would be nice if it could make a good pitching rod as well. But mostly it'll be a bottom dragging rod. Budget is up to around $350. 1 Quote
Super User ATA Posted June 7, 2023 Super User Posted June 7, 2023 I have two: -Conquest 965C Paired with Antares Dc and the one I just got: -Zodias 7'2" H pairs with Scorpion MD 1 Quote
Blaine Donders Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 Pride CS73H and a Pride Grass Rake 2.0 are my two favorite jig rods and will cover from 3/8-5oz between the two. Quote
JediAmoeba Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 I use an Tatula 7'6" or a Tatula 8' heavy rod. Usually 50 lbs braid to a 15" fluoro leader. Quote

PBBrandon Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 I rotate 4 rods for big jigs. (Down here in Texas with thick weeds and big bass you need em) 7’2” HF Daiwa BLX 7’6” HF Daiwa Tatula Elite AGS 7’3” HF Daiwa Rebellion 7’0” HXF Abu Garcia Veracity BLX is the stiffest of the bunch. Rated up to 2oz. Great pitching stick, should easily handle a 1oz jig. It handles anything 1/2oz and up great. Super light and super sensitive, but a little over your budget at $440 for that model. If you can find a sale or a promo code to knock the price down, it is well worth it. Tatula Elite AGS is also a great rod and in your budget. Long enough for flipping and bomb casting too. I like throwing 3/4oz jig+trailers on mine. The AGS guides make it really light and very well balanced. Sensitivity is great too. I mainly use the Rebellion and Veracity for frogging but sometimes will throw a jig with them, more so on the Rebellion. The Rebellion makes a great pitching stick and has good sensitivity for bottom dragging as well. I haven’t thrown jigs on the Veracity enough to judge how it is in that department, but it’s treated me well so far. Good luck with whatever you get. With that budget, you are bound to get a great rod. A lot of great sticks in that price range Quote

The TFO will work for now but I just don’t really like it. Quote

If the TFO feels dead to you I guess you could always use it as a frog rod. No need to feel a frog bite lol Quote

Super User FishTank Posted June 7, 2023 Super User Posted June 7, 2023 G. Loomis 895 NRX+ with a Diawa Zillion HD. It's rated 3/8oz to 1oz but it can handle a lot more. It's really a beast. It probably more rod than I need but I use it for 3/4oz jigs and up. I have also used it for punching a 1oz weight with a beaver. Quote

That just makes me jealous I missed the part about the budget.... So another suggestion is the Megabass P5 Super Destroyer. You can use it all sorts of things. Lures from 3/8 to 1.25 oz are not problem for this rod. You can find at a few JDM sites for the price you are looking for. If you want to go cheaper, there is a new Orochi line out called the X10. The rod you might look at is called the Bandersnatch. I know nothing about this new line but the price seems pretty good for a mid tear Megabass rod. They claim it can be used for jigs, texas rigged plastic, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits. Quote

A 904 MBR might be the ticket too. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 You’ve got the budget for something custom: your pick of blank, seat, grip material / length / design, colors… message me if you want to talk about it 2 Quote

Lead Head Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 I'll throw out there... if you're considering custom, look into Point Blank rod blanks. I use a pb731mhxf for 3/8oz jigs + trailer. If I used 1/2-3/4oz jigs much, I would absolutely have the pb731hxf. Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted June 7, 2023 Super User Posted June 7, 2023 Ark Invoker Pro 7'4" Mag H is outstanding for the weights you mentioned. It's light for it's power, well balanced, and sensitive. Also a great frogging rod. You can buy two of them with your budget. You can easily spend more and get less rod. It's my favorite all around pitching rod. Enough tip to pitch 3/8, plenty of power to drive home a big flippin hook and drag em out of the jungle. 1 Quote
rangerjockey Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 In the $ 300 range I think your best bet is the Expride 7ft2 Heavy. I throw 3/4 oz. football heads on it as well as the ol' ball and chain. it's a great rod. The trouble with the NRX for a bait that heavy is that it's close to being too much for the 854/894 and the 895 was always kind of a blah model. 1 Quote
