bp_fowler Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 I was helping my dad clean out his garage recently and we came across a St. Croix Mojo Bass casting rod he didn’t use anymore. He said I could take it if I wanted it, which I did. The rod is a 7’4” heavy power fast action and is good condition. My question is what would be the best use for this rod? I already have a multi purpose baitcaster but this would be an upgrade I believe. If it wouldn’t make a good multipurpose rod, could I use it as a technique specific rod and if so which technique would it be best suited for? Quote
Eric 26 Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 Although I never used one I’ve heard they make for a good frog rod. 1 Quote
Solution Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 6, 2023 Solution Posted June 6, 2023 That can be a jig/plastics, spinner bait , chatter bait, spook, swimbait (within casting weight) rod. Pretty versatile 2 Quote

I'm not DVT, but I've fished frogs on rods from 6'6" up to 7'6" and for the most part I settle in at the shorter end. My current is the 6'11" falcon eye crosser which was designed for frogs. I fished my Amistad 7'3" heavy for a time but the length is draining on the wrists if you're hopping it back to you and its too long to fish tip down and walk it back. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted June 6, 2023 Super User Posted June 6, 2023 7'4" H/F? Frogs, jigs, moderate cover flip/pitch, smaller hard swimbaits (Bucca Baby Gill or Shad for example) Quite a few things you can do with that rod. 2 Quote

I thought it read med heavy. Yes A hood frog rod. St Croix heavy is really stout. Could punch mats too. Quote

Pretty versatile I’m happy to hear that since I was kinda hoping I could use it for jigs/worms, more specifically football jigs and Carolina Rigs. Also the versatility is a big deal since I’m new to this so have room to grow into other techniques as I learn them is a value add. 1 Quote
