Lame.

I agree, cheating is lame. I hope the cheaters get their tails handed to them, but we are talking about mlf

Whether or not they knew it will play a role here I think.  We all know they have the most sophisticated electronics in the bass fishing realm and its very likely they knew they were targeting the same fish more than once, whether or not it was obvious to us.

Tak had a 5min "argument" with his marshall about wanting to go right back up to a fish he just caught, and catch it again ?

Let him catch it. Who gives a ****?

In a C+R tournament format, how do you disallow a fish that's already been caught once? How many times is it legal for a fish to be caught during a tournament? How do the rules differentiate between a fish that's already been caught by a contestant vs one that was caught once by a local, then caught by a contestant?

To me MLF opened the door wide open for this situation by having their rules and deciding to plan a stop during peak SM spawning activity.

Lot of the stuff MLF does is very silly to me.   Lot of the stuff is about optics only as well.

Apparently they made an unenforceable rule that it can only get caught once a day

Well, good luck with that.

Probably happens all year when they aren’t spawning and nobody notices

Anyone know the results of MLF's 'investigation' ?

Have they finished it and or did they made the final word, if there is one, public ?

The fact the NYS allowed this is an absolute joke.  Even during the C&R season, DEC aggressively urges catch and IMMEDIATE release.  Obviously, any angler catching bass during this time of year will be getting weights and pictures but the fact that the state allowed the biggest tournament trail to do this publicly is really bad press. If DEC knew anything about spawing bass they'd know how easy smallmouth are to catch off their beds and should have known that these clowns would be catching the same fish over and over.  Talk about protecting the resource.  I get it, $$$ talks.  I was already ticked off by MLF, now I'm officially done. Great job Boyd and friends!

What resource? The DEC has never respected the bass and panfish fishery. All they care about are their precious salmonoids.  God forbid you have a party of five with more than one fish on a rope. Literally have had guys with guns drawn over it. It's mental. Trout are put and take. It's why our licenses are so expensive.

Bawahahahahaha......get a load of Randy's hot take lol.    As always, there is about 25-50% of logic behind his argument, but at least 50% of stupidity ?

I didn't hear anything stupid from that "hot take."  Everything he said is 100% true.  Fishing 75% of the season during the biggest spawn windows is crap for conservation and a real garbage look to the public.  Yeah I get it's the only time these guys can catch big fish and big fish draw crowds but it's still lamer than lame.

The rule prevents cathcing the same bass more then once. If the anger returned to the same bed and caught the same weight bass he did that intentionally regardless of the casting distance...DQ!

Sorry, but I have respectively disagree with the last part of that statement. Any decent pro....and in fact most any reasonably capable armature...can catch quite large smallmouth bass on Cayuga Lake at almost any time of year. Maybe not quite in the quantity or size that they do during the spawning season, but a 25 lbs 5 fish limit is well within reach almost any time of year. I do agree that it would have been better optics if they held the tournament a little later in the year.

I wasn’t necessarily taking just about Cayuga but any lake in the country.

Talking strictly about Cayuga, yes, a few guys can do that at almost anytime of the year if they know the lake well enough. Same with Ontario and The River.

However, I don’t recall ever seeing smallmouth like that in any of the other pro tournaments (or any other) held on Cayuga that have taken place well after the spawn. Plenty of 20+lb bags out there but they’re almost all green fish.

People can catch a smallmouth bag approaching 30 lbs from November to March in N Alabama below the big dams. Honestly they can do it year round but fall/winter is the best time

regular joes too, not even tournament fishermen

same area during the spawn, 15 lbs is a good bag

I wouldn’t put an “any lake across the country” label on it, fishing during spawn hurts the weights down south unless you’re at santee cooper or FLA

Joe does a real good job of keep that under wraps.

Otherwise I gotta think MLF would already be there for the spawn.

Actually joe puts it all over Facebook and instagram, luckily most tournament trails are over by thanksgiving and Christmas when the bigs are chewing. (MLF pro salzman’s pictures are also crazy for pickwick in late fall)

For us rednecks, spawning SMs is something we know little about, but after this tourney and some additional things I've learned, they're vastly more predictable, and aggressive during the Spawn.

It's worth pointing out that the NY state record was broken last year and would have been broken again this year by the same angler fishing in a tourney.    Sounds to me like he knew exactly where to come back this year to find the fish, and sure enough he did.   He caught this fish in a derby before the MLF event this year.

Seems like they put an unenforceable rule on the books

may have already been mentioned but apparently some didn’t confirm with the Marshall that their fish were hooked in the mouth

So they've essentially admitted to breaking a rule then, since any fish hooked outside the mouth is not valid.  If they admit to breaking a rule, its time to enforce the punishment.

I wasn’t watching it, just heard that. Surely they could just watch the footage and see if they showed the Marshall the hook

And perhaps the Marshalls should be better trained. Some of the blame has to go to marshalls that did not enforce the rules about being shown the fish and where it was hooked. The marshall(s) who didn't immediately disqualify a catch that they did not see where the hook was placed in the fish are sort of guilty of aiding and abetting the angle(s) who did not show it to them.

It's been 30 days and not a peep in this deal.

Guess we have our answer . . . .

I am not totally surprised but am a little disappointed.
